Hello,
The not so nice IT chaps at work (well, in the US actually) have decided to make the RP site inaccessible.
I think i may remember someone saying this was easy to get around – could anyone please help (or PM me if you’d prefer).
On a side note, but now related issue, what sites other than the RP do you use for racing purposes (news, form, betting, forums, etc) on the net?
Thanks,
AndrewJuly 24, 2007 at 12:28 #109061Well the Sporting Life site is comparable with the Post’s but I would think that is blocked as well.
If you are into stats I can recommend Adrian Massey at:
and another useful one would be : http://www.easyodds.com

July 24, 2007 at 12:46 #109064They blocked YouTube here
July 24, 2007 at 15:27 #109085are you employed to look at the RP website and youtube ?
i suggest you cut and paste this thread into an email and send it to your manager, i am sure he will think of a helpful suggestion or two for you
July 24, 2007 at 15:44 #109086What is your problem?
As you suggested something for me, let me do the same for you. Do refrain from bitter, unhelpful responses until you have something worthwhile and constructive to add.
You do sound like quite a cranky and bitter chap. poor you.
and btw … have you heard of tea and lunch breaks?
July 24, 2007 at 19:47 #109099They blocked Betfair a our place for a while .. our IT bods said don’t try and access it at work, you may get the sack, once it’s blocked.
July 24, 2007 at 22:41 #109112its called humour salselon, put your handbag away – you can get tablets for stress and nerves at the doctors i believe
July 25, 2007 at 00:31 #109121Let’s hope they prescribe Nitrous Oxide too.
July 25, 2007 at 04:23 #109126are you employed to look at the RP website and youtube ?
Yes………
…… well ok not exactly but I was looking for a video on a trial in WA which I was writing about and that’s why I was looking for it

July 25, 2007 at 08:40 #109136Careful Salselon, Dave’s right – you will get into hot water bypassing the company server to access sites they deem unacceptable.
I know a guy who got sacked for some thing similar. Turns out his actions were covered in the company policy manual in so far as he had jeopardised the security of the company on the basis that he could have down loaded something infected and so corrupting the whole server.

July 25, 2007 at 10:41 #109154In fairness simon, your reply came across as more snotty than funny but that’s just my highly educated opinion.
July 25, 2007 at 13:26 #109169In answer to the original question you can get around it by editing your registry settings.
However, I’d be extremely surprised if you have sufficient acces to do so. You’d need local admin rights.
I would also echo the earlier comments in that, unless you have a particulary relaxed relationship with your boss, it could easily be classed as a sackable offence.

July 25, 2007 at 15:53 #109185I can get on the site but can’t log-in.. Which is hugely frustrating!!! That only changed when the RP introduced the betting wallet and all that gumpf.
July 25, 2007 at 17:54 #109202Seems to me a couple of posts on this thread have been just a touch patronising towards the original poster.
I feel sure that he is well aware of what he is doing and what would happen if his employer didn’t approve of him, and then finding out that he is/was, logging on to such sites.

Thanks Colin, i was thinking the same. I’m sure people mean well, and it is quite frustrating to not be able to read the RP online in the morning with breakfast or at lunch.
Anyway, such is life. If that’s my biggest complaint this week, i reckon things aren’t going too bad.

AndrewJuly 25, 2007 at 22:40 #109233I don’t see the point of ever being employed particularly if you can’t do what you want to do and read about racing.
You may be able to use the proxy sites, if not blocked (there are others):
http://www.proxyvoid.com
http://www.proxylord.comJust type in http://www.racingpost.co.uk from those pages.
If still blocked, try typing in the IP address 62.44.69.151
