Going to have another go at this. I’m a single parent working full time and usually rushing around short of time, so I’ll keep it simple and just put the price that I’ve taken on my bets as I don’t want to get too bogged down with checking what prices are still available where etc. I don’t do the exchanges as yet and have been stopped by 3 or 4 bookies so chances are I won’t be taking best prices on offer half the time anyway.
I’m basically trying for at least one big payout a year, singles, ew doubles/trebles or whatever suits, usually 8-1 plus, hopefully picking up the odd smaller return here and there to stop my losing streaks getting ridiculous. I’m sure there will be lots of mistakes in there but it’s fireworks if a big one comes in!

BVFebruary 8, 2016 at 13:03 #1232807So, mistakes already as predicted, it’s always the same for me, especially after a quiet winter (not getting too involved with the jumpers) but lessons have been learned and I’m feeling confident moving forward. I do have a slight excuse in that my laptop is now in for repair and I’m having to look at racing things at before, during breaks and after at work, but note to self- must do better.
To rub salt in the wounds, I missed a big opportunity at the weekend too for my method of selection too- don’t want to dwell on it too much cos at the end of the day it is after the event and also if I think about it too much it will do my head in !
Mistakes and missed opportunities and getting myself more prepared are part of the reason I am doing this online as it has been a running thread through the last 4 years or so that I’ve been betting this way and I’m looking to iron out as many bad habits as possible to maximize my returns.
Lessons to remember from the weekend- 1- There can be opportunities in what appears to be a race too competitive, start looking at a race with a positive attitude. 2- Make the time to look at all races of interest even on the busy days, they can provide the best chances of something to be overlooked. 3- Remember to look closely at the criteria for selection (which I have now written down instead of being in my head!
) it is a good way of reducing the bad bets and highlighting the good ones.
All pretty obvious but I’m going to continue with things like this throughout my thread.

but should be getting a bit more action soon!I’m already on at 33’s this one but I’ll put it on this thread at …. 0.5 pt ew MARCEL in 2000 Guineas @ 25-1 various firms.
I’ll probably have some more on nearer the time if confirmed.April 5, 2016 at 00:34 #1240906Well, I have started the Flat season with a bang – AW Finals day I got a 225-1 double up with Alben Star and Captain Joy as well as the place part of an ew treble which included Metropol who came a length and a short head 3rd (would have been near on 5,000-1 if it had hung on!!) Then weekend just gone at the Curragh I got a 235-1 ew double up with Onenightidreamed and Zhukova!
I didn’t post them on here as I only had minimal stakes on and also did some alternative bets and this is supposed to be saved for my more confident selections. (bodes well hopefully!)
I backed Mobsta at 16’s in the Cammidge on Saturday as well as 2 or 3 others in the same race and on Sat. night I looked at the Curragh card and backed a few including Zhukova and Flight Risk.
Then I got thinking about why it had paid off to get involved in the Cammidge (bear in mind I work a lot on instinct and not too many details) basically I had felt there were question marks over the market leaders and others in the race weren’t too far away on class/form and were available at much nicer prices, so I looked again at the 2 Curragh races and felt that the same situation was happening in both of those, made 2 selections in each race combined doubles and it paid off!
It is still a learning curve for me and I tend to be rather cautious these days. For the 2nd time on this thread i feel that I’ve missed an opportunity to win big (curragh not lingfield) I think it is partly the extra pressure of wanting to do well on here but also maybe the fact that I’m tending to select 2 or 3 horse in a race at the moment therefore watering down my stake to a point that it is not worth putting on the thread.
