A cracking set of questions homersimpson. With the previous sets I’ve been confident on at least a few, but could believe all 10 of these!

1)The first racecourse I visited was Yarmouth.

TRUE, sounds believable, perhaps you went while on holiday.

    2) I once was having such a bad run in Listowel that I asked the landlady of the Guest House for 3 numbers. The 3 numbers were put on a Virtual Horserace, 50c Combi Tricast which won me nearly €1,400.

FALSE, we’ve had a tricast question not long ago, could this have been inspired by that?

    3) I once played Bass Guitar on the Cavern Club stage in Liverpool.

FALSE, would like to put true, but have got too many of them.

    4) I once scored a century in Club cricket.

    TRUE

    5) I have stayed next door to England manager Gareth Southgate whilst on holiday.

    FALSE

    6) The first time I got on a horse I fell off and broke my arm.

FALSE, sounds like something that would happen to your cartoon namesake though.

    7) Last year was the first time I moved house in my entire life.

    FALSE

    8) I have just accepted a new job offer after 35+ years in my first and only job.

    TRUE, and congratulations if so!

    9) I went to see Queen’s final concert with Freddie Mercury as lead vocalist at Knebworth Park in 1986.

    TRUE

    10) I once received a telephone call from F1 McLaren boss Zak Brown.

    TRUE

I had a feeling Homer’s ten wouldn’t be easy and that’s turned out to be an understatement….

Waiting over. The 10 questions are :-

    1) The first racecourse I visited was Yarmouth. Christ only knows – FALSE?

    2) I once was having such a bad run in Listowel that I asked the landlady of the Guest House for 3 numbers. The 3 numbers were put on a Virtual Horserace, 50c Combi Tricast which won me nearly €1,400. I’m not having this – simply too annoying to contemplate if true – so FALSE

    3) I once played Bass Guitar on the Cavern Club stage in Liverpool. Why not? TRUE

    4) I once scored a century in Club cricket. Got a feeling this might be TRUE as well

    5) I have stayed next door to England manager Gareth Southgate whilst on holiday. Perfectly plausible, maybe too plausible! FALSE!

    6) The first time I got on a horse I fell off and broke my arm. FALSE

    7) Last year was the first time I moved house in my entire life. TRUE

    8) I have just accepted a new job offer after 35+ years in my first and only job. TRUE

    9) I went to see Queen’s final concert with Freddie Mercury as lead vocalist at Knebworth Park in 1986. I’m just not seeing Homer stood there in the dark with a lit lighter, singing along to Seven Seas Of Rhye, so FALSE!

    10) I once received a telephone call from F1 McLaren boss Zak Brown. TRUE

This is a one-sided, male dominated quiz. Maybe the female forumites are afreaid of revealing too much about themselves. But who knows, homer could be a woman. Why else would Zak Brown dial her number?

Landafar apologies for missing your Quiz, it looked a cracker so I would
probaly have made a complete balls-up anyway.

    1) The first racecourse I visited was Yarmouth. (False although I haven’t got a scoobie)

    (2) I once was having such a bad run in Listowel that I asked the landlady of the Guest House for 3 numbers. The 3 numbers were put on a Virtual Horserace, 50c Combi Tricast which won me nearly €1,400.
(False that’s a definate porkie, I’ve read Homer’s posts and he doesn’t strike me as to being mad
enough to bet on Virtual horse racing. Mind you he could have been drunk as a skunk as he was in
a pub chatting up the barmaid.)

    3) I once played Bass Guitar on the Cavern Club stage in Liverpool.
(true, I think homer has hiden talants)

    4) I once scored a century in Club cricket.
    (Bollocks, oops I meant false)

    5) I have stayed next door to England manager Gareth Southgate whilst on holiday.
(True, The’re not about to put Gareth in the Penthouse although it could have been Chalets )

    6) The first time I got on a horse I fell off and broke my arm.
(True, I don’t see why not)

    7) Last year was the first time I moved house in my entire life.
(False, staying with your mum and’or/dad XXXXXXXXX amount years, don’t disapoint me)

    8) I have just accepted a new job offer after 35+ years in my first and only job.
    (True, and about bloody time)

    9) I went to see Queen’s final concert with Freddie Mercury as lead vocalist at Knebworth Park in 1986.
(True, it was 1986 after all and Homer would only have beeen about 69)

    10) I once received a telephone call from F1 McLaren boss Zak Brown.
I’ll leave up a few days and post answers probably next Tuesday evening.
(False, even although it’s probably true, but I don’t have a true left)

    Another great list, Homer’…

    1) The first racecourse I visited was Yarmouth. FALSE
It’s always one that I leave to last as it’s easy to put in as a True or False question… 50-50 and I am short on falsies.

    2) I once was having such a bad run in Listowel that I asked the landlady of the Guest House for 3 numbers. The 3 numbers were put on a Virtual Horserace, 50c Combi Tricast which won me nearly €1,400. FALSE
Possibly if having a poor multi-day meeting you would have asked for three numbers from the landlady for the last day of that meeting. Not virtual racing surely Homer?

    3) I once played Bass Guitar on the Cavern Club stage in Liverpool. TRUE
Bass Guitar yes, probably not at the Cavern… Although I think they do tours at The Cavern… You could have “played” a few strings on a bass left “on the Cavern Club stage”. That would be far more likely so I will change my mind and say TRUE

    4) I once scored a century in Club cricket. TRUE
Totally believable, unless… too believable… Nah must be true.

    5) I have stayed next door to England manager Gareth Southgate whilst on holiday. TRUE
My memory isn’t good but I seem to remember someone on TRF saying about this before.

    6) The first time I got on a horse I fell off and broke my arm. FALSE
Broke an arm while riding, maybe, but the first time on a horse? Too easy to make up… Or is that what you want us to believe?

    7) Last year was the first time I moved house in my entire life. FALSE
If your parents died when you were fairly young it is very possible, but I now need one to swap with Q3 so will say false.

    8) I have just accepted a new job offer after 35+ years in my first and only job. TRUE
I was 30+ years in my first job so I don’t see why not.

    9) I went to see Queen’s final concert with Freddie Mercury as lead vocalist at Knebworth Park in 1986. FALSE
I’d have thought more likely to have gone to one of their other concerts.

    10) I once received a telephone call from F1 McLaren boss Zak Brown. TRUE
Strange one to make up unless it was another F1 boss… And if it was, you’d probably have given a more well known boss as a false answer. So… true.

Bloody hell GT you’ve just handed it to Nathan on a plate. Results are (if calculated correctly) :-

    Nathan Hughes 8
    Ian Davies 6
    Marlingford 6
Gingertipster 6 (could have been 8 if the answer hadn’t been changed)
    BigG 4
    Ex RubyLight 4
    Landafar 4
    Richard88 2

What it does mean though, which will please GT no end, is that exactly 50% of answers were right B-)

    1) The first racecourse I visited was Yarmouth.

TRUE – Correct Marlingford. Like Red Rum 77 I visited the course when 9 years old whilst on holiday there. Parents must have had the same idea as Red Rum 77’s.

    2) I once was having such a bad run in Listowel that I asked the landlady of the Guest House for 3 numbers. The 3 numbers were put on a Virtual Horserace, 50c Combi Tricast which won me nearly €1,400.

FALSE – Correct BigG. Hardly ever backed on the cartoons never mind tricasts. But it did happen to a mate of mine who would bet on two flies going up a wall.

    3) I once played Bass Guitar on the Cavern Club stage in Liverpool.

FALSE – Yes another mate of mine who played in a Beatle/McCartney tribute band. I probably went on stage and may have even handled the guitar but I couldn’t play a note.

    4) I once scored a century in Club cricket.

TRUE – If you knew how I could bat you would have definitely said false but this did happen in a 3rd team game at the end of the 1989 season. The batting order was partially reversed and whereas I usually batted 10/11 this time I opened. Chasing around 300 we lost by 1 run. We had 9 players, the opposition 8. It took me a while to get to 50 but then I opened up and the 100 came up in no time. I think my next highest score was around 36.

    5) I have stayed next door to England manager Gareth Southgate whilst on holiday.

TRUE – Although not whilst England manager or even famous. I stayed with a Great Uncle/Aunt down in Crawley and apparently a young Southgate lived next door. Very vague memories of this but they must have said the kid next door was a very good footballer and they had high hopes of him making pro. It was later, when he played for England, they reminded us of this fact. I was 8 at the time so I think Southgate was probably 9.

    6) The first time I got on a horse I fell off and broke my arm.

FALSE – I imagined this would happen so I’ve never got on one.

    7) Last year was the first time I moved house in my entire life.

TRUE – Never been bothered to move out. My Dad died around 5 years ago and since then to plan for the future, Mum wanted a Bungalow on a bus route, as we lived on a pretty steep hill with a big garden. The other thing is that I now own the house so there won’t be issues if/when the inevitable happens.

    8) I have just accepted a new job offer after 35+ years in my first and only job.

TRUE – This came at exactly the right time for this thread. Firm got taken over 4 years ago and things for me have not gone well. Luckily somebody got in touch, I went for an interview and got the job. Will miss the staff and my present clients though.

    9) I went to see Queen’s final concert with Freddie Mercury as lead vocalist at Knebworth Park in 1986.

FALSE – Wanted to go to a concert on the ’86 Tour (probably Wembley) but Mum said I was too young to go with a mate of mine. She said there would be other tours (sadly not). Eventually saw Queen + Paul Rodgers 22 years later, without Mum’s permission.

    10) I once received a telephone call from F1 McLaren boss Zak Brown.

FALSE – I did receive a work related email from Zak though.

Absolutely superb, homer – and what a dramatic finale, with the late GT switch to GT’s ironic disadvantage.

Congratulations, Nathan, I’ve lost track – are you our first dual winner of this?

In any event, I await your ten with great anticipation.

Great stories behind your statements, homer.
Well done to you Nathan and I understand why you’d pass the opportunity to BigG.

The questions is: What shall we do to keep this thread alive after BigG and hopefully Richard88 will have posted? I mean this forum is much bigger than the participants we have here and we need something for the summer months too.
