Good to see you back, Steve. A harbinger of spring hopefully :)

Hi Joe, I did the two Alan King horses for the Triumph this year. Who Dares Wins and Gibralfaro, they were both 33/1 at the back end of last year.
The former was only 4th last week but conceding weight. The latter had a nice boost from Connetable today and looks OK at 12/1 still.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
February 6, 2016 at 22:20 #1232627Keep the faith guys……..Good ground will see Ivanovich Gorbatov prevail come March 18th
the shock around Leopardstown was overwhelming today after his performance……however the ground was atrocious and Geraghty never asked him for anything after that Annie Power jump-a-like at the fourth last……..I’m surprised the horse stood up TBH….February 7, 2016 at 01:54 #1232647A lot of odd results at Leopardstown today probably on account of the ground.
I have to say that I liked the way Let’s Dance was staying on again at the finish and as the Triumph can end up being a bit of a stamina test, I wouldn’t be surprised if she was able to reverse placings on better ground (never run on anythiing other than deep ground) – she must be one of the best maidens around!
The fav beat her on similar ground last time out so I wouldn’t use that as an excuse and being flat bred you would think better ground would suit but then that would also place more pressure on your jumping technique going that much quicker and you can ill afford to make mistakes in a race like the Triumph – personally, I like the Alan King pair.

February 7, 2016 at 09:55 #1232665Geraghty stated the horse was always on the backfoot. Why was that? Could it have had something to do with where you lined him up?
Debut performance and that were chalk and cheese. If you have backed him for the Triumph you just have to hope Geraghty will not mess up like that badly again. No guarantee because he is looking half the jockey since he linked up with the bookmaker’s pal.
February 7, 2016 at 18:50 #1232721Connetable from the slowly improving Nicholls yard looked a nice sort yesterday and without doubt looked the type to improve with each run, I’ve taken 16s and feel confident of a place at lesst
February 9, 2016 at 14:21 #1232897Well I’m seemingly way off the mark with Wolfcatcher. Very disappointing tbh. The form of his maiden worked out well and I love his King’s Best-Sadler’s Wells nick. One of only 2 Ferguson Triumph entries and was very well backed beforehand. Obviously he’ll improve a lot for a better surface but that was disappointing.
February 9, 2016 at 14:55 #1232898Pilansberg entered at the weekend for a novice hurdle, got some really good flat form in france and if he takes to hurdles, he could be something special. Been taking the huge prices on the exchanges for a little while and hoping he runs on sat. Bit of a stab in the dark.
February 9, 2016 at 20:45 #1232922That’s how I got Zarkandar at crazy prices, so good luck to you Rocky.

Really franks the form of Gibralfaro actually… Who has looked extremely impressive so far. Is it the mediocre flat rating (vs the likes of Ivanovic) that is keeping a decent price about him?
One thing for sure, this is a dangerous oul race to be getting too seriously stuck into!
February 11, 2016 at 13:30 #1233100I’m with you Pointer and Steve, really like Gibralfaro, backed him on his second hurdles start when he absolutely bolted up against the Nichols horse that just beat Peace n Co (can’t trust Nicky Henderson these days can you). If I remember right Connetable and the King horse were basically alongside each other going over the last (both had travelled very well) but the King horse quickened away like a good’un, the fact that he’s kept the horse off the track to avoid the heavy ground shows that he thinks he has a potential Cheltenham winner here and didn’t want to hinder his chances (different from Yanworth as his action suggests he copes with cut in the ground even if he doesn’t prefer it).
February 12, 2016 at 03:52 #1233169I was already committed to Ivanovich Gorbatov before his last run but I’m surprised how much the price has contracted after initially being pushed out after a poor run. I do hope the money is right.
February 24, 2016 at 11:12 #1234999Gibralfaro runs in the Adonis on Saturday and unsurprisingly is favourite at a current 5/4 price. Zubayr for the Nicholls stable is second best at 11/4, while the same stable’s Adrien Du Pont, who beat Sceau Royal before then being runner up to him, sits at 4/1.
I am obviously hoping Gibralfaro can win this.
The interesting runner for me is Khezerabad for last year’s Triumph King Nicky Henderson. He’s not been as well touted as Zubayr but he was actually rated 99 on the flat in France, compared to Zubayr’s rating of 80 in the same country. All things being equal, that makes 11/4 for the lower rated horse a bit odd when the other is 8/1 when both are making their debut. Both stables have had disappointments but I feel Henderson has had some nice winners and is 25% with his hurdlers at the moment.
Fascinating to see these two debuting in this race and I prefer the Henderson/Munir combination at 8/1 to give the favourite most to do.
I’ve had a tickle on Khezerabad for the Triumph Hurdle at 25/1, as even a defeat of the right sort could put him in the picture after Saturday. It is obviously not as simple as just taking flat ratings and translating them to hurdles but it’s quite beguiling that if Zubayr, Gibralfaro and Khezerabad met on the flat in France, the highest priced horse on Saturday would be giving more than a stone to the other two if it were a handicap.
Triumph Hurdle Khezerabad 25/1 on the nose
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
