Of late, I’ve noticed that some Feature Articles have made bold predictions as to likely winners of particular races, the latest being last Saturday’s lightening non-strike.
It would be a great marketing ploy for TRF if these tips were proving successful but I tend to think that, on the whole, this is not the case.
Does anyone keep stats on how many horses flagged up as betting selections within the Featured Articles have actually won please?
If it’s the case that the Forum’s attempt to highlight winners is proving disastrous then perhaps future tips should be confined to the Daily Lays and Plays Section?
Alternatively, I’m all for TRF tipping horses…but only if I can have absolute confidence in them winning.

I enjoy reading them especially as I get up on Saturday morning before The Morning Line, the writer clearly knows their Racing and is a great addition to TRF.

Only if you paid for the cake.
September 6, 2010 at 12:00 #316120Quite true, Mr. Wilson.
But, in terms of my time, energy, blood, sweat, tears and tantrums I reckon a bit of TRF icing wouldn’t go amiss.

Don’t know why I’m feeling the need to justify this is I’m sure 99.99% of TRF members/viewers treat these articles for what they are BUT…
These features are written primarily for external content provided to regional newspapers throughout Scotland to help promote TRF. It seems daft to write them and not post them on TRF so we normally post them here too, exceptions would be where we have other ‘live’ features we don’t want to obscure/swamp.
I used to write them but have handed over the reins to Adam Lee Brookes – Adam is using his time with TRF to hone his writing (and tipping) skills and is doing a fantastic job of both the writing and tipping elements. I very much enjoy reading his articles and he’s highlighted some decent priced winners lately (failing by a sh.hd to get 3 out of 3 last midweek) .

The good news for you (and me, incidentally) Conundrum is that since I started tracking the selections earlier in the year they’ve been going really well – here are stats since 12th May (please note however that while all of these appeared on the newspaper sites not all of them were posted on TRF – they can be checked on the newspaper archives – let me know if you wish to do so and I’ll send you a link).
31 wins from 82 selections (31.7% strike rate)
Profit to £100 stake (at S.P) +£2,107Fairly respectable I hope you’ll agree Mr C.
However the bad news is that I’m fairly certain that they didn’t do as well before then so there are no guarantees of profit I’m afraid Conundrum (can you let us all know when you find a tipping service you have ‘absolute confidence’ in).
September 6, 2010 at 13:30 #316141btw – Saturday’s results aren’t on my spreadsheet yet so you can subtract £300 from that profit fig and adjust the strike rate to suit.
September 6, 2010 at 14:29 #316151Cormack 15 asked…can you let us all know when you find a tipping service you have ‘absolute confidence’ in
Sadly, Cormack15, some people appear not to recognise ‘tongue in cheek’ even when it should really hit them in the face. But that’s life I suppose.
Therefore, I have absolutely no confidence in anyone else’s tips proving more or less successful than my own, with perhaps one or two exceptions i.e. Nathan Hughes.
The point you make about the overall success of the tips albeit that we do not get to see the whole caboodle….. Perhaps if you could just restrict the sure-fire winning selections to here and the losers to the newspapers then I’m sure it would save pointless threads like this.
I suppose the main reasoning behind my thread initially though was that when the feature articles culminate in suggested tips then somehow the forum itself loses a little of its gravitas and perhaps, to the newcomer at least, might not be perceived to be held in any great esteem or authority.
But that’s just an idle opinion. No big deal.

September 6, 2010 at 14:59 #316157It is possible to make a regular an steady profit on horse racing. Without wishing to blow my on trumpet, I’ve made a regular profit for many years, and all bets in 2010 checkable since I joined TRF, I’ve also won the recent 365 World Championship Tipping Competition, 97 out of 100 possible points and a profit in all five sections.
After a sucessful NH season (2000+ points profit), this is the first season for a decade I’ve bet in the summer but my two threads show a (NH) £200+ an a (Flat) £550+ profit on £1 a point stakes, average bet about £10 or 10 points and if it wasn’t for all but one of my 100 points bets going down the profit would be even better. I know it would be better on level stakes.
The overall summer profit reached nearly £1700 after Galway but August was a nightmare.
Maybe I’ve turned the corner though, three bets/selections yesteray Won 16-1, Won 2-1 & unplacedAll selctions posted with P/L, free to anyone who wants to use them, just don’t blame me when the inevitable bad run occurs, the previous one to my August fiasco was at The Cheltenham Festival, embarrassing considering my posting tag.
Next Bets? probably on Saturday
Please understand, this is not a "bragging" post, I’d like to think others can profit from the knowlege I’ve acquired in nearly fifty years of backing horses
September 6, 2010 at 15:26 #316162In that case Cheltenham Specialist, I take it all back. Maybe you are the man to follow, in which case, I’ll be backing your selections just as soon as you could let me know when your next long run of winners is due.
I’m off to the Post Office to draw out my life savings because I have absolutely faith in you hereonin.

– if you want to see the ‘whole caboodle’ I’ll send you the link, as I said in my last post.
If your suggestion is that you’re concerned that we go down the ‘tipping sheet’ route – we’ve no intention of morphing into a tipping site. However, casual readers do find tipping columns (particularly when they are well-informed, as Adam’s invariably are) of interest (supported by our site traffic figures) so I think, so long as we don’t attempt to make them our raison d’etre, they are an asset to the site.
Cheltenham Specialist –
having witnessed at first hand your highly impressive (outstanding in fact) tipping performance in the Tipping World Championship competition and followed your tips with interest I’d recommend everyone checks your selections out. There are several gems hidden in ‘Daily Lays and Plays’ and ‘Systems’ and yours ranks highly among those. I know I was one of several who viewed some of your initial claims, when joining the site, with suspicion but I’m delighted that your performance on those threads have proven me spectacularly wrong!
As you say, like the profitable tips in the Features section, all
free
and available to all.
September 6, 2010 at 15:57 #316171CS – check your PM’s by the way! I’ve sent you one re- prize for the Tipping Comp
