TRF 2014 SUMMER SERIES TIPPING COMPETITION

TIMES OF COMPETITION –
Starts 2000 Guineas Day Saturday 3rd May and ends British Champions Day [/b](If postponed the competition will continue to the rearranged date). TRFers may select in JUMPS as well as FLAT racing in ANY race in BRITAIN or IRELAND or in FRENCH Group 1 races.

Qualifying days – Every SATURDAY and SUNDAY, plus OAKS DAY and ALL days at ROYAL ASCOT, GLORIOUS GOODWOOD (late July/early August meeting), NEWMARKET (July Cup meeting) and YORK EBOR meeting.

PLEASE FEEL FREE TO START A NEW THREAD for a particular day/weekend if one is not already in operation. Selections can be posted from the time final declarations are known.

STRICTLY NO EDITS – although TRFers can add selections with more than one post per day’s racing – once a selection is made it can NOT be withdrawn.

THE AIM –
Simply to get as much profit to LEVEL STAKES as possible. To find TRF’s most profitable tipster and to see how we all stack up against the legendary Tom Segal, Pricewise.

There are significant changes to this year’s competition.

THE BASICS –

TRFers have a MAXIMUM of 10 POINTS PER WEEKEND (see "Festivals").

ONE 1 POINT EACH WAY (2 points) selection ALLOWED PER WEEKEND (must be 4/1+ and any each way @ less than 4/1 will be treated as 1 point win).

ALL other selections of 1 POINT WIN ONLY.

UP TO 3 selections PER RACE.

TRFers can decide NOT to use their each way nomination e.g. if wanting an extra 1 point win selection.
You do not need to use all the points available.
The place part of ALL each way bets will be treated as ¼ odds (even if the bookmaker quoted is offering less).
Only one each way selection is allowed, if anyone puts up two each way selections – the second named will be included only as a 1 point win selection.
If more than 10 points are selected only the first 10 named will be counted.

PLEASE mark your bets CLEARLY.

WHAT TYPE OF BET AND WHEN –
Win only selections(including French Group 1’s) can be SP, or TOTE or BOARD PRICE with a named bookmaker. SP and TOTE can be taken any time up to 1:00pm. In the event of races run before 1:00pm any selection/s for those races will obviously need to be put up before off time. Any EACH WAY selection must be either SP or BOARD PRICE, but NOT TOTE (scorers don’t want to bother with looking up Tote place odds). Anyone nominating Tote for each way selections will be counted as SP.
ALL BOARD PRICES taken MUST be nominated BEFORE 9:00AM morning of race and from one of the 11 “Eligible Bookmakers” below. Blue Square have been taken over by Sportsbook and have also included Skybet this season. We will do spot checks on availability of prices. Anyone posting bogus odds will be (a) banned from the competition and (b) held up to ridicule.
Any selection without nominating a BOARD Price will be treated as SP.
BOARD prices nominated AFTER 9:00 am on day of race will be treated as SP.
Dead heats settled at half stake to full odds.
(I recommend scorers using sportinglife.com when SP is nominated for French Group 1’s, as Racing Post seem to give only Tote prices).

TRFers do NOT need to post on all 25 weekends; as long as a MINIMUM of 1 selection is made for 13 WEEKENDS (ie either SATURDAY or SUNDAY or BOTH). Failure to do 13 weekends will result in DISQUALIFICATION!

NON-RUNNERS –
For ease of scoring NO rule 4 deductions will be made.
Non-runners will NOT be counted towards the allowed 10 points, so if selecting what turns out to be a non-runner (a) The original horse will be VOID. (b) If in time for the 1:00pm deadline TRFers may decide to choose another selection.

PRICEWISE –
For the first time Tom Segal’s each way bets will be counted as each way. Unlike us, Tom will be allowed an unlimited number of each way selections; as he doesn’t do each way bets every day, so two or more one day makes up for none at all another.

Only Pricewise tips published in the paper will count – i.e NO Pricewise Extra selections. If two Pricewise selectors give tips on the same day – only Tom Segal’s tips to count. If Tom is not tipping on a day – his stand-in’s tips will count.

NB. Bookmakers get to know who Pricewise is going for by 7:00 or 8:00pm the night before racing; artificially shortening up his selections to limit liabilities (knowing Pricewise dominates the early day of race markets). Therefore, any TRFer taking a price on a Pricewise selection will be given Pricewise odds. e.g. Even if tipping a Pricewise horse up when only 12/1 is available – TRFers will be given the same 16/1 odds as in Tom’s column… That way it stops Tom from taking a price that is (in effect) not really available to the rest of us.
Anyone taking a price bigger than the Pricewise column (eg on the afternoon the day before racing) will be credited with those bigger odds.

SELF SCORING –
Scorers give their considerable time generously when adding up scores and it would be appreciated if TRFers could help – PLEASE try and do your OWN SCORING whenever possible. Instead of TRFers just claiming how much they’re up/down over the day/weekend in question… it would be preferable to QUOTE selections and ADD IN which ones WON, at what PRICE and NON-RUNNERS. With STAKES, RETURN and PROFIT/LOSS. So scorers can see instantly where the claimed profit/loss comes from. It really does help a lot, particularly with each way this season. Thanks.
