TRF AWARDS 2021 – The Winners
Poster Of The Year – CORK ALL STAR
Thread of the Year – Who is your favourite authoritarian dictator (thread initiated by Ian Davies)
Flat Horse of the Year – St Mark’s Basilica
Jumps Horse of the Year – Honeysuckle
Flat Trainer of the Year – Charlie Appleby
Jumps Trainer of the Year – Henry de Bromhead
Flat jockey of the Year – Hollie Doyle
Jumps Jockey of the Year – Rachael Blackmore
Riding Performance of the Year – Bryony Frost on Frodon at Down Royal
Racehorse Owner of the Year – Cheveley Park Stud
Commentator of the Year – Richard Hoiles
Broadcaster of the Year – Lydia Hislop
Journalist of the Year – Lydia Hislop
Hero of the Year – Bryony Frost
Villain of the Year – Stephen (the Maggot) Mahon
Racecourse of the Year – Aintree
One to Watch in 2022 – GalvinSome closely fought contests but also some romps. Both Bryony Frost (Hero and Riding Performance of the Year) and Lydia Hislop (Broadcaster and Journalist of the Year) scooped two awards while the de Bromhead/Blackmore/Honeysuckle axis scooped the awards in their respective categories. Gordon Elliott gave Stephen Mahon a run for his money in the Villain of the Year race but Mahon’s actions were so despicable that even the higher profile Elliott misdemeanour couldn’t wrest the title from the Maggot’s slimy clutches.
Galvin was nominated and in the running before his festive period Grade 1 win which probably clinched a close run battle for him.Closer to home, Ian Davies once again became a ubiquitous TRF contributor and he was in the running for both the big titles but CORK ALL STAR pipped him in the coveted Poster of the Year category. Davies made no mistake in the Thread of the Year award race though, his ‘who is your favourite authoritarian dictator’ thread seeing of Bachelors Hall’s very popular Juvenile Hurdlers thread.
January 1, 2022 at 17:06 #1576045As stated on other threads, huge congratulations to Cork All Star, a thoroughly-deserved winner.
And many thanks not only to those who voted, but to all the great and frequently hilarious contributors on the winning thread I initiated.
But finally, the biggest thanks must go to David Cormack and his superb moderating team.
Not only for organising the vote, but for continuing to work tirelessly and voluntarily to maintain this amazing free website and forum.
I, for one, will always appreciate their endeavours and never take them for granted.
And I am sure I am not alone.
Happy New Year to everyone.

January 2, 2022 at 13:18 #1576182I am tickled by the irony of the dictator thread perfectly demonstrating why democracy simply does not work. The greatest authoritarian dictator of all time was Josip Broz and it isn’t even close. He was exceptional as a warrior, a statesman and a diplomat. His prowess in any one of those fields alone would have made him a shoe-in. The behemoth that Tito was, he rose above being a one-trick pony and excelled across the Trinity of what makes for a great leader of men. Yet this once-in-a-species specimen did not even get a run in the thread.
Even casting aside how entertaining and engaging the thread was for the majority of voters, that the thread gave us all a germane demonstration of why humanity needs to abandon universal suffrage is the real reason why it was the frightfully deserved winner.
To Ian, my heartiest of congratulations and to all, my wishes for a 2022 of peace and contentment :)
January 2, 2022 at 13:59 #1576195I posted results on Twitter. Lydia Hislop passes on her thanks to forum members as does Richard Hoiles, who wishes us all a Happy New Year.
Former TRF’er Sulekha Varma (Lekha) is now clerk of the course at Aintree no less and Sulekha thanks us all on behalf of Aintree who were voted top racecourse. No word yet from Stephen Mahon…
January 2, 2022 at 15:18 #1576218Well done CAS and Ian and all the other winners.

January 2, 2022 at 18:51 #1576255BH – what a guy.
Not only does he display predictably good grace with his much-appreciated congratulations, he’s suggested an early entry for this year’s renewal to take on Hitler!
The man’s a legend.

January 2, 2022 at 21:05 #1576272“He’s not quite

is he Sir?”I’m not so sure, he could be “some kind of God,” gamble.
Maybe I’m biased, Bachelors Hall was a favourite horse of mine, UK juvenile hurdlers are a niche interest of mine, and I always respect anyone who is disarmingly frank about their circumstances, especially if they go on to improve them.

To save another specific forumite the bother of posting it: “Didn’t you see the sign? DON’T FEED THE NARCISSIST.”
Too late, he already did.
Many thanks, BigG – hugely appreciated.

THERE IS ONLY ONE IAN DAVIES
and no other human has reached or is likely to reach the summit and pinnacle of your ascendancy and supremacy.I am inclined to burst into song
” Somewhere over the 🌈
way up high
There’s a ‘oneandonly’that I heard of once in a lullaby
Somewhere over the rainbow, HE reigns true,
And the dreams that he dares to dream, really can come true…
Everyone after me..
Sing it proud
and sing it loud..

ONE IAN DAVIESJanuary 2, 2022 at 22:13 #1576290There is a TRF forumite who doesn’t seem to much like it when we’re all nice to each other – it seems an alien concept to him and he finds “feel good” threads toxic, even poisonous – but there is something he dislikes FAR more.
Anyone who feeds my narcissism!
Much though I absolutely LOVE your last posting, gamble, I fear it will make someone feel quite violently unwell if they read it!
Best dial 999 in advance – just to be on the safe side!
