It was the Mullins trio of Appreciate It, Classic Getaway, and Embassy Gardens who stood out to me initially here.

I’ve had The Thyestes in mind for Appreciate It since the Spring, and don’t want him to win this, cause I’m planning a big bet on him for that of he runs, but st the sane time, don’t want to miss him when he does win.

Also think Classic Getaway lands a big handicap this year, and planned a similar approach with him

That left Embassy Gardens who’s harder to predict (though percentage call says handicaps too). I decided to side with him, only for the 18’s to have turned to 11’s, so no bet yet

One to revisit tomorrow, but nice looking race

It’s a really good race isn’t it , Montys Star looks rock solid but I’m looking forward to seeing if Bronn can show something , it’s a long shot but he looked a talented horse at one point

Has Montys Star’s absence really been intentional?

On the face of it this looks a race full of out of form horses (other than the fav) and those with other targets. But if Appreciate It puts it all in over a better trip for him… And first time out seems often the time to catch Embassy Gardens and Classic Getaway… Although if playing, I’d advise an in-running saver at much shorter odds – especially on the latter. As even at his best, Classic Getaway often travells well and finds nowt. Capodanno doesn’t seem in love with the game nowadays. Minella Crooner “clinically abnormal” last time out. Bronn seems amiss and changed stables out of Mullins yard since his good form.

If some of the better horses do return to form and / or Montys Star needs the run – it might not be as easy as the betting suggests for the fav. However, you could also make a case for nothing else to show anything like their best… In which case Monty’s garden will be even rosier and deserves to be long odds-on.

Weeding out the races too difficult to work out is one of my New Year’s resolutions. :rose:

So many of my faves here!

Monty’s Star is in my TTF but I tend not to bet odds on, so put him in a double with Champ Kiely who debuts over fences today.

I think Embassy Gardens would have won the NH chase but for the fibrillating heart, then was turned out too quickly after that experience at Punchestown. I’ve backed him here w/o the fav

 Classic Getaway but I don’t think he enjoyed the slog in a bog here last year and it’s heavy again today. At least he doesn’t have a penalty but I have left him alone. I hope he doesn’t get a hard race.
Bronn had an even less happy time in this last year. Not convinced he wants it really deep and I sort of wish he wasn’t running today. I really like him and hope he can make his way back without being discouraged by hard races.
Minella Crooner ran well in this last year albeit perhaps flattered by his proximity to the first two, and goes on the ground, but I’ll leave him alone for now.

I don’t think Capodanno likes this ground. Appreciate It should be OK, and ran well last time, but I never quite warmed to him for some reason. Bobby is usually right about targets so I’ll wait for next time!

Good luck today everyone and happy racing in 2025 :rose:

Grass, Hope I’m right about Appreciate It, as I’ll miss him today, having completely missed the price

I’ve reluctantly went with Embassy Gardens, though frustrating that’s it’s at 8’s rather than 18’s

    Embassy Gardens 8’s

I think Capodanno is taking a big step down in class, but he is too unreliable and tough to predict.
Considering the fact that he rather goes well fresh (2nd after 288 days and 1st after 230 days off) I also backed Bobby’s Embassy Gardens at 8/1.

WD Bobby for the courage of your convictions.

Disappointed with Monty’s Star, I know EG is a good jumper and likely fit as couldn’t be turned out undercooked given his problems, and sharp track didn’t suit Monty, but he still should have been winning that even though it was reappearance.

Thanks Bobby, but it was you who picked him first. Should have taken the SP.

Thanks, Mark. You had nice winners yourself today with Springwell Bay and Lucky Place. Well done to you too.
