The Hennessy – Trabolgan beat L’Ami 2.5 lengths giving 7lb so is 10lbs better on that run.
The Gold Cup – L’Ami beaten 10 lengths by War of Attrition the winner.
Surely Trabolgan would have won the gold cup?
March 18, 2006 at 00:35 #70081Different tracks, different conditions, different opposition and trainers in different form.
So who knows.

Let’s just hope that they all get there in one piece next year, eh?
March 18, 2006 at 08:32 #70087The form book says that L’Ami has come on considerably since Newbury. Trabolgan might still be 7bs and two and a half lengths better than him but I don’t think I’d bet on it.
March 18, 2006 at 10:19 #70089I don’t buy into the "on a line through x" style of analysis, for the very reasons LGR mentioned.
Was L’Ami’s performance yesterday equal to his performance at Newbury?
(RPR have him 8lbs better)
Would Trabolgan’s performance have been the same as his Newbury performance?
Who knows?
Let’s hope Trabolgan, WoA and KK all make it to the festival next year (and, ideally, to the Betfair chase, the KG & the Lexus as well) and we can see how they’d actually get on against each other.

March 18, 2006 at 19:43 #70090Have to agree with steve but surely trabolgan will have more improvement in himthan the others?

Thought Trabolgan was a super horse..but this sort of interruption may change things
Fundamentalist is a perfect example for the point you make.
March 19, 2006 at 00:58 #70092better horse and not that much of an injury….
March 19, 2006 at 04:50 #70093It’s a damn shame that Trabolgan wasn’t in the race. He would have been my pick certainly, and I think a short priced fav.<br>WoA will NOT stay 3m on soft ground, and Hedgehunter in 2nd really deppreciates the form I feel, and am not convinced about Forget The Past. The only excuse I can make for BoS is that the ground didn’t suit one bit. His 4th in 2004 was on soft, and has done nothing in the other 3 years, so i’m praying for rain next year, cos he deserves it more than any other horse in training.
March 19, 2006 at 10:13 #70094The difference between Trabolgan and Fundamentalist is an excellent trainer also.
March 19, 2006 at 11:05 #70095So very true DJ
Trackside….NH is on record as saying he could have run with a push but has preferd to be patient.
March 19, 2006 at 18:20 #70096On the (admittedly massive) assumption that Trabolgan would have continued to improve throughout the season, I would certainly have been lumping on him for the Gold Cup. At very skinny prices probably.
I think he would have destroyed this field, simple as.
I really hope he can come back.
Isn’t Nicky Hendeson absolutlely fantastic?

This wins the Ian Davies Memorial Award for Outrageous Assertion Based On No Real Evidence inaugurated this time last year by the late Basingstoke Boy with his statement following the Gold Cup that Kicking King would have "creamed" Best Mate if both had run in last year’s race.
March 19, 2006 at 20:07 #70099I’ve lumped on for next year at 14/1:)
March 19, 2006 at 20:34 #70100You’d be better off backing Monet’s Garden at nearly twice the price.
March 19, 2006 at 20:50 #70101Won’t stay, Gus.
