Did I see correctly that Doncaster refused entry to 31 race goers who had been spotted buying their tickets from touts?
In future make sure you buy your tickets out of sight of the racecourse cameras.
I have in the past bought tickets from a tout because it is much cheaper than paying on the day prices and often cheaper than buying a ticket in advance. Take the Tuesday for Royal Ascot 2023 grandstand tickets are at the moment £70 I am sure you would get one on the day cheaper from a tout.
I often wonder where they get there tickets from, maybe Ascot selling tickets at £50 if you buy 49 or more, for that Royal Ascot day in 2023 is one answer. Perhaps it would be better if racecourses stopped doing that and brought the overall price down.
If racecourses want to get rid of ticket selling touts then they should try and reduce the chance of them getting the tickets in the first place.
September 11, 2022 at 16:15 #1614335I’ve always wondered where they get the tickets from.

I've walked and I crawled on six crooked highwaysSeptember 11, 2022 at 19:17 #1614386I would never arrive at a racecourse without a means of entry by prior arrangement.
Who turns up without this, hoping to buy a ticket from a tout?
I just don’t get it.
You could incur travel costs and not even get in.

September 11, 2022 at 20:42 #1614398If it is stated at the point of original sale that tickets are not transferable I should imagine the racecourse will feel it has the right to do this.

September 11, 2022 at 23:04 #1614427In the days when pubs used to run trips to the races, there were always people wanting to buy any spare tickets. Can’t see it being very profitable though.

September 12, 2022 at 06:33 #1614449Get rid of paper tickets.
E-tickets only and you have to show that and ID when you arrive at the racecourse.
And the added bonus that you’re helping the environment by saving paper.
September 12, 2022 at 07:38 #1614452I never said there was anything “wrong” with it but the fact of the matter is that ticket touts are parasites.
They block-purchase tickets for popular potential sell-out events in advance, depriving others of the chance to buy them, and then aim to sell them at a profit for an event they had no investment whatsoever in staging.

We are polar opposites, Ben, I buy my ticket up to a year in advance, check it’s on my phone ten times before I leave the house (which I return to six times to make sure I locked the door) and I wouldn’t even speak to a tout (or anyone tbh) as I was always told as a child never to talk to strangers!
I admire your cavalier attitude to life – but I live life on the hard shoulder, not in the fast lane!

If a Company or organisation has block booked a certain amount of tickets for staff or members then there will no doubt be a surplus of those who don’t use or want their ticket. The tickets then somehow find their way into the hands of Touts.
Before I became a Member at Newmarket I would always look out for the guy touting tickets, you could save around a third of the entrance price.
It was on Greene King Day that I ended up with a ticket block bought by the Brewery. I was a little worried we would be challenged that day as there was a special entrance gate for GK ticket holders but we got through.Last July Cup day the Touts were not having it so easy. Racecourse Security has been stepped up and a couple of regular faces were being warned off the course.
Now I’ve heard that a number of Newmarket Members have lost their badges for loaning them out to family and friends. The days of hopping over the back fence are long gone.

That’s a bit harsh. People might be ill or have to work unexpectedly, so why can’t they let someone else use their badge- the racecourse already has the admission money, anyway, and people who have gained “free” entry this way are likely to spend more on refreshments, etc, using the money they have saved on admission fees.
September 13, 2022 at 08:51 #1614592100% agree Gladders but the way the Jockey Club probabky look at it is those folk are more likely to bring their own sandwiches and coffee and picnic in the car Park before they go in…just like I do.
Who wants to pay almost £7 for a smoked salmon sandwich served up in a cardboard carton which looks tastier than the sandwich.

BADGE SWAPPING
We are very sad to report that five customers have had their badges withdrawn due to the fact that badge swapping/passing is taking place. Please do not sit in the pavilion and then allow someone else to use your badge. This is not fair on others who have paid to be badge holders and abide by the rules.
It’s more about Members letting their friends upgrade once inside the racecourse but I think the hidden message is that Badges are for sole use only and if caught loaning out your Badge to anyone you’re out.
