might be the 5.10 at ascot with the winner of the uruguayan 1000 guineas – florista gg – taking on just six standard british handicappers
the times for it’s runs in uruguay if reliable are reasonable but what might the form be worth ?
the price looks competitive, more so if e-w bets in 7 runner races are your thing
let’s hope it doesn’t do what the horse in my previous and first interesting race thread did – colourful score, shipped jockey coming out the gates
July 14, 2007 at 13:07 #107851Interesting import. Not exactly pressed hard in that race or previous win (over 6F). Will like the ground – could be anything. Priced up around 6/1. Bookies tend to give good value on foreign raiders / imports from ‘unfashionable’ countries so this could be worth a small wager if you fancy it – I’ll say ‘best watched’ at the moment.
Another interesting horse is Steve’s Champ from Norway, running at Chester. Has graced these shores before when just being pipped in a competitive Newmarket listed sprint in 2004. This horse is said to be a real speedster and he’s very consistent. But I’m not sure how good his recent form is, so he won’t be carrying my cash.
July 14, 2007 at 13:50 #107857I think it’s safe to assume that Apex is still at the top of his game. His last time out defeat was not that bad, while his form before then was scintillating in terms of ‘winning ordinary handicaps’. He looked so far ahead of the handicapper, that I can’t see why his defeat last time should put anyone off.
He is also re-united with his apprentice Hayden Frost today who has served him so well of late. I just wish I could get an angle on the trainer lol (hence my previous thread) as to what sort of form he is in.

July 14, 2007 at 13:54 #107858The jockey booking for Florista GG is not one that would suggest any great expectation of success.
It would be fascinating to know how the handicapper decides on a rating for a Uruguayan classic winner !

July 14, 2007 at 17:48 #107885Yes Alan, it would be great to get some feedback form the handicapper on how this horse was given a mark. This could be the start of a new method for the likes of Sir Mark and Barney. Send horses to race in some obscure country come back here and run in a handicap!
Maybe some of the pro journos on here could ask the question of the handicapper?
July 14, 2007 at 18:04 #107886Contact details for all BHB handicappers are published in the Racing Calendar. I won’t publish the email address on here but if anyone wants it to ask the handicapper where this figure came from, just say so and I, or any other kind soul with a Racing Caldendar I’m sure, will pass on said address.
