Kevin Blake confirmed on Twitter(Not X):

‘The planning permission for the new all-weather track at Tipperary has come through a 16-month appeal process and has now been granted. It’ll be a beauty when it’s finished. Six-furlongs on a very slight dogleg and a widened round track.’

Also confirmed when I asked that the jumps track will be retained.

Does Ireland need a second all weather track?

Anyone cynical might think Tipperary has been chosen because it is close to Ballydoyle…

It’s a moot point if a country on as small a land mass as Ireland needs anything like the number of racecourses it has generally but, while no “for the craic” Irelandophile, I do think it’s kinda cool that they do – and that their fixture list is nowhere near as bloated as ours so virtually every meeting at the minor tracks retains novelty value.

AW racing is the future and I’ve always believed in embracing the future – I look forward to its first fixture.

I won’t actually be there (obviously), I will be watching on my phone (obviously), muted (obviously).

More information here from The Irish Field (5 free articles per month)

Sounds impressive with a 1m3f floodlit circuit and a 6f straight proposed while keeping a turf track for NH.

The local authority says the floodlights may not be used between 10pm and 7am. There goes any hope of racing at 1 o’clock in the morning…
