I have to say Channel 4 Racing did a brilliant job covering Cheltenham. A big Thank You to such a great team who brought the magic and excitement to our front rooms <!– s:-) –><!– s:-) –>
March 20, 2010 at 15:03 #284290I had to move over to RUK, for the races in particular. Too many close ups and even when showing all the field it was difficult to see how each horse was in relation to the next. I’d say well done RUK.
Value Is EverythingMarch 20, 2010 at 15:33 #284301Well for someone who doesn’t have RUK i was just very grateful for Channel 4 ha.
Actually if racing on 4 ever stopped on terrestrial tv would that mean the main events like Cheltenham, York and Newmarket etc would stop too or just the weekenders??March 20, 2010 at 16:38 #284318Same here; I always take the week off, go on the Tuesday and spend the rest of the week watching Ch 4; and I think the coverage they have given the Twiston Davie’s yard has been excellent..it was lovely seeing Imperial Commander today with his lass; what a star she is as well.
March 20, 2010 at 17:02 #284326I missed the last part Jim McGrath’s Festival Favourites, the top five. If anyone can post his top five I’d be greateful!
Surely Arkle and Golden Miller were the top two?
March 20, 2010 at 17:30 #14492Leading on from another post I wonder what everyone did make of their Cheltenham coverage? I do not think they made enough effort to show runners before the races, especially if there was a large field, though they had ample time to do so on each occasion. Some of the races we only got to see the runners as the tapes went up.
Today there was no sight of horses before the races & instead of showing the parade for the Midlands Grand National we were treated to a return to the studio & then someone saying there are a few minutes to go before the off we will….blah de blah. I was screaming at my TV in anger. Why are they doing this? I will email them with my thoughts.March 20, 2010 at 17:36 #284335Arkle was number one, pretty sure Kauto was two, Golden Miller at three and if Mill House and L’Escargot didn’t appear later down the list then they were 4 and 5.
March 20, 2010 at 17:36 #284336Don’t want much do you
We don’t get this during the week on ATR or Racing UK so it’s pretty likely we won’t get it on Saturday either.
I can put up with the little failings CH4 have. At least we get coverage of the races!
March 20, 2010 at 17:41 #284337Just checked, the list should read
1. Arkle
2. Kauto Star
3. Golden Miller
4. Flyingbolt
5. Easter HeroMarch 20, 2010 at 18:01 #284344Easter Hero; know so little about the horse but have always been fascinated by what I’ve heard. And didn’t realise that the photo of Golden Miller with the greyhound was the Miller with his stable companion. I always thought it was a photo shoot with Mick the Miller [another of my heroes]. Also fascinated to see the interview with Martin Pipe showing his collection of Dorothy Paget memorabilia.
March 20, 2010 at 18:02 #284345Yeah, well done C4.
I’ve really warmed to the big fella Tommo, loved the bit when he was in the pub with the vicar of Ditcheat and he ordered two ciders, "you’ve got to drink cider when in Somerset" nice one Tommo
Blackbeard to conquer the World
March 20, 2010 at 19:40 #284362The best part was that he took a drink from one of the halves and then turned around and gave the same glass to the vicar – who gave him a disapproving look
March 20, 2010 at 19:41 #284363They had some great footage of Golden Miller, Flyingbolt
and Easter Hero. I’d never seen Flyingbolt before.March 20, 2010 at 20:34 #284390Ah, it drives me nuts.
Especially Thursday. I DO NOT CARE WHAT SOME FREEZING COLD TWITETTE HAS DECIDED TO WEAR!!!!!!!
Keep fashion to the flat, thank you.
March 20, 2010 at 20:49 #284399C4 – They should show more of the paddock. I tend to turn the sound off between races due to the utter garbage they speak but it looked to me like Tanya was ready to punch Big Mac on Friday.
March 20, 2010 at 21:06 #284410They should go back to showing the pre-parade, never mind the paddock! Did they show you Tell Massini having a complete hissy fit after he was saddled and they tried to take him through to the pre-parade? At one point I thought he was going to throw himself over backwards, and I wouldn’t have backed him after seeing that.
March 20, 2010 at 22:12 #284440Yes, it was the first time I’d seen Flying Bolt.
I get a bit ranty about Ch4 sometimes but I do appreciate everything they’ve done to keep racing on terrestrial. I just wish they’d spend more time on the racing, when there’s racing.
The prog started what, an hour earlier than the first race? Plenty of time to do a lot of the fashion nonsense, the "Ruby story" and all the other things they kept showing instead of horses in the paddock or going to the start.
