Apologies for lack of response. Wish I’d seen it all sooner, genuinely was unaware of BH’s posts. No underlying agenda.

It is my hope this has now been resolved to BH’s satisfaction and he feels able to return.

But in the interim I feel life remains a learning curve for all of us and I would like to suggest the following learning points from this.

    1. Shared user handle – having more than one person share the same user handle “Admin” is not only confusing for the membership, it’s occasionally evidently confusing for the Admin team themselves. I’ve seen the personal pronoun “I” used on Admin posts – “err, who are you?” – and I’ve seen personal views expressed not only under the handle, but under the generic TRF handle on Twitter.

    2. Communication – It is staggeringly hard to believe that the Admin team do not talk to each other. There was an Admin response here, but nothing from TRF’s owner until last night. I’m aware we (even me!) all have lives outside this forum, I appreciate TRF is a free resource, but it takes literally seconds to ping each other a message, and that message goes direct to a switched-on smart phone in our pocket in the majority of cases nowadays.

    3. Monitoring the forum – TRF is a big forum, with an impressive array of folders. But it’s not the labrynth referred to by Bauhaus in “In The Flat Field,” one does not require Theseus’s string to navigate one’s way out of it and evade the Minotaur, the notion a thread like this can sit here festering for this length of time and not only escape the notice of the entire moderating team, but, if spotted, the observer doesn’t then bother communicating the concerns raised here to TRF’s owner, evidently stretches credulity for some to its very limits.

So maybe going forwards we could all: remember what handle we are posting under (after all, we did just choose to logon under it a minute ago), and proactively talk to each other, and address issues swiftly, all in the name of forum harmony. I don’t think these are unreasonable suggestions.

Best thing to do is mail david@theracingforum.co.uk or send a message to the ‘Admin’ account on here if there are issues, those are the quickest routes.
There is also a facility to report posts, that’ll get to me too.

The offending article(s) are still there

Why, if they’re submitted by third parties, are they credited with being “by admin” ?

    A most unsatisfactory business

The article should now be no longer viewable.

They are credited ‘by admin’ because the articles are submitted by third parties but need to be uploaded from within the site’s admin function.

I confess that, as I seldom visit the home page, still less read the content there, I’m not entirely sure if this is the article, or one of them, in question, but I just saw an item entitled: “The Best Online Horse Racing Slots” and read it.

I didn’t like it, not one bit.

I particularly disliked what looked like an attempt to blur the lines between betting on a horse race and gaming bets with horse racing branding.

It stated: “as well as being in or the chance of winning money in the same way they would by wagering on horse races.”

This statement is, at best, disingenuous, and, at worst, an outright lie.

A horse race is a real-life contest, odds compilers price it up as best they can, but they can get it wrong and punters can win long term if they’re smarter than the market makers.

A virtual game is is set so, regardless of what outcome you back, you will lose in the long-term.

You absolutely cannot beat the pre-programmed profit margin for the operator over time.

Having misleading material like this at arguably the greatest racing forum on the web is bad enough, but having it carry the byline “By Admin” as if it’s a review written by this website, hence an endorsement, is thoroughly unsatisfactory in my view.

Adverts are one thing – TRF’s operating costs have to be met – but “advertorials” which look like TRF reviews/endorsements are quite another.

Perhaps not as all would wish for, but I hope it is sufficient for
Bachelor Hall and Sam to put this behind and carry on with their
splendid work. Obviously it’s all up to them but I hope it’s enough,
the Forum would lose a lot if they were to leave.

There’s a 3yo Hurdle at Market Rasen on Saturday – and I need to know what BH thinks!

This supersedes all other factors in my book.

Items I don’t like, on home pages I never visit, I can agree to differ about and move on from, but I need to know BH’s No 1 choice at the Lincolnshire venue….that’s non negotiable!

This issue is not going away anytime soon.
It does not appear to have been fully dealt with as yet despite the recent comments of Corm.
We have already lost one of the finest contributers to the forum and one of the best threads. Juvenile hurdlers.
I propose that this thread be moved as soon as possible to the racing page rather than the lounge.
There, it will be in full view and no one can say they haven’t seen it. This issue needs to be fully discussed and debated.
It deserves everyone’s attention and comments.
It concerns racing and perhaps the very future of the forum.
I request again to any forum moderator that you put this thread on the main racing forum (where it probably ought to have been in the first place) while you still have the power to do so.
