Very unfortunate that Some Tikket hit the deck on Sunday. He went off 6/4 fav (Marlbrook was a NR), so my confidence was high pre race. I’d have to say it’s impossible to know if he would have won or not, but Cooper said he would definitely have beaten his father’s horse, who finds little off the bridle. He jumped well in the main and will step up in trip now. Paddy Power refunded the win part of the bet under their November special, refunding bets last fence fallers. He’s still on my list of potential RSA horses.

November 13, 2013 at 19:05 #458202One of my stalwarts from last season,
Arvika Ligeonniere
, makes his return at Clonmel tomorrow. It’s not a bad little race, with Rubi Light, Texas Jack, Toner D’Oudairies, Mikael D’Haguenet and Foildubh in opposition. However, Arvika is well in at the weights and has about half a stone in hand of all of them tomorrow if the ratings are to be believed. He looked a monster last season when he got his conditions: soft ground and more importantly he’s about a stone better right handed. He’s won on good ground before so while the official going description of Good-Yielding tempers my confidence somewhat, I’m more than hopeful he’ll win tomorrow en route to a crack at Flemenstar in the John Durkan.

bids for a quick handicap hurdle double tomorrow at Clonmel. He won a lot snugger than the half length winning margin suggests at the weekend and the extra half mile tomorrow will only help him. I don’t usually like backing horses that have run just a few days previous but he’s a hardy sort who looks very well in on his chase form. I’m convinced Sarabad has a handicap in him but hopefully it won’t be tomorrow.

November 14, 2013 at 11:27 #458266I’ve taken some of Boyles’ 10/1 on
Ballynagour
winning the PP Gold Cup. After some late night study last night I compiled a shortlist of Dynaste, Ballynagour, Colour Squadron and Gift Of Dgab. With Dynaste out of the race I think Ballynagour could well go off favourite. Historically the Pipe’s have always targeted this race and this has probably been the plan for Ballynagour for some time. He was going well in the Byrne Plate before stopping like he’d been shot after the third last. He was subsequently found to have burst a blood vessel which is a concern, but at least it explains the weak finish. First time out could be the time to catch him considering how good he looked first time up at Warwick last season. Not going overboard on this race as it’s difficult to rule anything out, but I don’t think Ballynagour will be 10/1 come the day.

€10 e/w @ 10/1 (Boyles)Massive shout there Tommy, I did fancy himself myself but thought he looked like he wouldn’t run. Believe it or not Betvictor had him at 16/1 last night when everyone else were at 10s. I did half consider it but like I said I assumed he wouldn’t run. Had a bit of loose change on the machines at 25/1 anyway so I’ve got two carrying my cash
Good luck mate, if he stays sound he’s sure to run a massive race!November 14, 2013 at 13:06 #458276Massive shout there Tommy, I did fancy himself myself but thought he looked like he wouldn’t run. Is he the same horse though Gord? I wouldn’t take the chance at around 6/1. He only just edged the old enigma
Menorah
at the back end of last term when getting bricks of weight off him. Couldn’t rule him out though if he puts up his Jewson form.
This
Ballynagour
actually impressed me more when losing at the festival than he did mopping up at Warwick. He travelled like a champ until stopping and he had valid excuses. He still looks plenty unexposed to my eye and should he run his race he should be bang there.

Nothing like a good debate over one of Pipey’s handicappers to tell you the jumps is back

€20 win @ 10/11 (PP)Arvika does what he does best there at Clonmel. He made one bad error but jumped well other than that and I’d say connections will be very happy with that comeback. Could be a mouthwatering clash with Flemenstar in the Durkan, I know where my money will be going.

€10 e/w @ 3/1 (Boyles)It was a case of job done with Questions Answered, holding the late rally of Supreme Carolina to win by about half a length, having been well supported into 7/4. Sarabad looked a big danger at one point but he finished quite weakly.

If the legendary layer of horses says he’s laying this
Ballywhatsisnamefellow
then it loses Gents,I use the word ‘Lay’ very lightly but 100% accurately…….in running is on the tip of my tongue!

I’ve never backed one of your lays though Gord

Two bets today on the Irish raiders: Vitrix Gale in the first and Uncle Junior in the cross country.
Vitrix Gale
looks well in on her hurdles rating and was subject to a rare poor ride from Ruby Walsh last time out, flying home at the finish. Standing Ovation is 6 lbs well in theoretically but he only ran last weekend and could be worth taking on. Vitrx Gale has the added bonus of Jamie Codd on her back, and riders are very important in these amateur races: she has the best jockey in the race riding her. 6/1 will do.
Uncle Junior
has brought home the bacon for me the last two years in this race and he’s had his excuses for poor efforts since last year’s win, where he slammed Balthazar King. He’s reportedly in good form and 7/1 is too big! I was tempted by Quiscover Fontaine but he was beaten by a parish in a recent point and is probably best watched.

November 16, 2013 at 13:27 #458626I’ve added
Colour Squadron
to Ballynagour. He has a huge swing in the weights with Rajdhani Express and while I’m not a stats man he has the profile I look for for a race such as this. He’s definitely better than he’s shown over fences so far and there’s a handicap in him. Paddy Power go 11/1 with 5 places e/w.
