Good evening fellow comrades.
Fistly well done to all who had returns last week
.Well due in main to the early start this week thanks in no part to the Bob Hope Classic, thought i’d better get my skates on with the one’s to avoid.
So as the Bob Hope Classic is first under way i will begin with that.
Anthony Kim is for sure going to command alot of respect as always but at the current odds not for me this week thanks very much, i feel it is much more open than that.
Main Selection.
Having crossed the T’s and dotted the I’s the honour of carrying my main burden here falls on Scott Verplank, who more often than not performs with credit here, here’s hoping that i have not put the mockers on his chance this week.
Next Best.
I felt i could not pass up last years victor DJ Trahan, who if in the same mood could well be celebrating another No 1
come Sunday Evening.Brian Gay comes in next, has been performing well recently here’s hoping that will continue.
Longshots.
Three to contemplate here, firstly Lucas Glover get’s the chance to show that a recent rest has had the desired effect.
Bubba Watson also get’s a chance to possibly surprise a few having hopefully benefitted from blowing the cobwebs away last week, the bounce factor will no doubt come into play here
.Finally not sure yet if he is going to the gig, one or two have as yet to price him up but in the hope that he decides to take up his position then Vaughn Taylor will complete my sextet for this.
Ok on next to the second leg of the Desert Swing, this being the ultra competitive Qatar Masters, it is also the next leg in the Race To Dubai and as with last weeks Abu Dhabi Championship a corking turnout you will agree, as with the Bob Hope Six handed here which under normal circuimstances would be two or three to many but sod it after Zach Johnson did his bit last week i thought i would treat myself
.Those at the head of the market again are afforded the greatest respect but i’m beginning to feel that Ernie Els’s odds should be greater than is being offered at present, so it goes without saying that if he has the weekend to remember like last year then Adam Scott will not be far away come Sunday afternoon, anyone who shoots 18 under over the weekend like he did last year will win week in week out, but as we know for a player of his ability he does not do that or play so well as often as he perhaps should so on that basis not for me thanks.
Main Selection.
Having hopefully been refreshed after an extended festive break then Robert Karlsson will be my main focus of attention for this.
Next Best.
If he can put his mare of last week behind him then Henrik Stenson has to be given another shot, here’s hoping that was a one off although those of you familiar with Horse Racing will know only to well that the odd stinker will suffice from time to time.
Of last weeks main protagonists Paul Casey and Martin Kaymer i have come down just on the side of the latter as although Paul Casey will no doubt be feeling relieved at last weeks victory you get the feeling that Martin Kaymer may have more to offer this week, one note of caution they both missed the weekend last year.
Johan Edfors completes my trio for this part, signs again last week that he has just like Zach Johnson found a renewed zest for the game and most if not all the bookies seem to agree given the odds on offer this week compared to last week.
Longshots.
I again have to side with Danny Willett who if he comes here in the same frame of mind as last week will have a say in things come it’s conclusion, and finally a bit of spice to proceedings in the shape of Jyoti Randhawa, granted last week was by far his best showing for some considerable time as with Danny Willett if he can build on that then a couple of Rupee’s E/W may pay for the Korma’s ect.
Finally i cannot go this week without a small mention for the Ladies and the LPGA Brasil Cup.
Some may ask and quite rightly so as to why given my less than being in agreement of Three Round Tournaments, all should be of a Four Round format, so why the interest at this Two Round weekend bash, well having had a cursory look at the odds available earlier, it certainly pays to advertise as well as investigate, and when you see something that in your opinion is overpriced as was the case here i very nearly dropped my Export
, thankfully that did not materialise
when i saw 25’s available on Kristy McPherson, i very swiftly along with my other choice for this Eun-He Ji said avery quick thankyou to the Tote, for such a gesture, they will no doubt now be ordering the drinks at the bar somewhere come late Sunday as a thanks for my donation
.Well that will do it for me for now, so as always The Best Of Luck To Everyone.
Cheers.
Adrian.
January 20, 2009 at 04:06 #205256Good luck to Adrian, FanciedHorseLayer and anybody else betting on the golf this week

The best tournament is the Qatar Masters which has attracted a decent looking field. Adam Scott often plays his best golf at certain events and courses and he certainly seems to relish this one as he has won it twice in only two attempts. This year’s opposition looks a lot better than he faced in his previous wins but I have backed him to get the hat trick at BF odds of 12/1. Henrik Stenson disappointed badly last week when expected to do well. He is worth another chance here in my opinion and he will have had time to practise hard to recapture his form after missing the cut.
I also think that Martin Kaymer is worth backing after his good performance last week. The Bob Hope Classic is the next event on the pga tour and takes place over 5 days. Anthony Kim could easily win this and deserves to be favourite. He played well at this event last year and has improved since then. He does still get a bit headstrong though and his course management skills still need improving in my opinion so I will not be backing him at the odds of 13/2 available.
Instead I like the chances of the long hitting Steve Marino who played well last week in Hawaii at a course which did not really suit his strengths. This course should be more to his liking ( so expect him to miss the cut ). I think last year’s winner DJ Trahan is worth betting on to follow up as he is another player who seems to have improved during the last 12 months.
I was going to bet on Charles Howell III who showed glimpses of a return to his best form at the end of last season and started this season with a good performance in the Sony Open in Hawaii but he must have found out and has wisely withdrawn so I will replace him with Nick Watney who will have a chance if reproducing the form he showed in 2007 when he won his first pga event. My other choice is Chez Reavie who won the Canadian Open last July and finished 5th in this tournament in 2008.The lpga tour starts with a whimper and it’s the LPGA Brasil Cup which takes place over 2 days with 15 players competing. Eun Hee Ji is my main selection and I also think that Laura Diaz is worth a bet.
Happy Punting

January 21, 2009 at 02:45 #205467Having another go this week.
Bob Hope Classic
Anthony Kim has been taken out of the betting so I assume he isn’t playing and therefore my main fancy and win only bet will be vying for favouritism which is Justin Leonard who had a consistent year last year and has played well on a couple of occasions at this tournament before.
Sorry Adrian but my second pick is Scott Verplank who as you rightly say has performed well in this event over the past 5 years. Win and top 5 finish.
Two small wagers each way on Ben Crane & John Senden based on them featuring in this tournament a couple of times before.
Qatar
I was going to plump for Ernie Els but went off the idea and my main selection will be another South African Charles Schwartzel who had a top 5 finish last time out and has a history of performing well at this event.
3 small ew bets on Soren Kjeldsen, David Lynn who has performed well here 3 out of the last 4 years and sorry again Adrian, Jyoti Randhawa.
