    Good evening fellow Comrades.

Well here we are again all refreshed after the festivities and ready to get plenty of winners in 09, Bookies beware  , were coming to get you.

I will begin with the Mercedes-Benz Championship which is the curtain raiser on the PGA tour and is for those who won an event in 08, if i’m not mistaken one or two have required the extra time off to get over the previous couple of weeks, Part Timers i say :) .

It goes without saying that one or two will be quicker out of the blocks than others you feel, hopefully we are included in that :) .

    Main Selection.

I have a strong feeling that one of the 1st Four in the betting will come up trumps here and having had a good think about it Camilo Villegas will be entrusted with the honour of carrying most of my interest this week due in main to the price, here’s hoping i don’t end up in the Bogota come late Sunday or early Monday  .

    Next Best.

A couple here, firstly Boo Weekley who will i have no doubt mix business with pleasure in his own inimitable way :) .

Zach Johnson is my third choice here who showed towards the end of last year that he seemed to be on the way back, here’s hoping that he can continue that with a prominent showing this week.

    Longshot.

I was originally going to leave it at that but having looked a bit further down i felt on this occassion that i could not pass up the odds on offer for Marc Turnesa, granted this is by far the strongest contest he will have played in to date and being one of a few who burst onto the scene last year i am somewhat surprised that he is twice the odds in places compared to some of the others here, here’s hoping i am not up the creek minus the paddle come the end

Ok onto the Joburg Open which is the first offering this year in the Race To Dubai and also completes the South African leg of the journey.

    Main Selection.

Few come here in better knick than Richard Sterne who if he triumphs this week will have completed a clean sweep of the South African swing and as a consequence is priced accordingly but in the hope that he can continue his good run and with it complete the clean sweep i am prepared to take the odds on offer.

    Next Best.

Quite straight forward here i thought, Charl Schwartzel being as i believe he is my only entry in the Race To Dubai plying his trade for me this week so a prominent showing please there’s a good lad :) and along with Chris Wood who i feel can have a good week form the backbone of my challenge here.

    Longshot

That honour has fallen on the shoulders of another Englishmen Danny Willett who i feel too could have a good run at it here.

Well that will do it for me for now so as always The Best Of Luck to all not just this week but through the year.

    Adrian.

A happy new year to Adrian and everybody else on the forum :)

The first event of the pga season this year is in Hawaii and it’s the the Mercedes Benz Championship which includes most of the winners on the pga tour last season. I have to respect the chances of Vijay Singh as he is in good form and has won this event in the past but his price is too short for my liking.
Instead I like the chances of K J Choi who has won previously in Hawaii ( different tournament ) and has shown signs of a return to some decent form in the last few months. Geoff Ogilvy has been playing well recently so I can’t resist betting on him and Trevor Immelman played reasonable well in South Africa at the end of last year and finished 3rd in his only previous attempt at winning this event so I think he is also worth backing. Finally I’m having a few quid at 60/1 on Daniel Chopra who won this tournament last year.

The Race to Dubai stays in South Africa and the field does not look too strong for the Joburg Open. I don’t have any strong opinions about this event and will go for a home victory and bet on James Kingston, Andrew McLardy and Hennie Otto.

    Good luck :)

    Pete

    Good Luck Guys

Wont get heavily involved until next week

But in my opinion the best Match bet in the Mercedes is HOLMES to outscore Pettersson @ 10-11 [Boylesports]
