November 22, 2009 at 20:09 #260051Obviously I’ve caught bits of all these celebrity programmes, and you can’t fail to read about them in the paper, so you do get a feel for the type of programme they are, and I KNOW I’d hate them. I hate the celebrity culture of people being famous just for being famous, I hate any sort of jolly, grinning presenter, I hate whooping, clapping over the top audiences,I hate programmes aimed at people with no brain cells, I hate Simon Cowell and his arrogance, I hate "celebrity" judges, and I hate the fact that people get caught up in all this hype. So yes, I know what you maen about "you haven’t seen it so how can you judge?", but I know what I like and dislike and these programmes contain everything I loathe. I’m a bit of an bugger that way, it’s probably the menopause

lol…yes I understand your last point.
Thanks for your frank reply.
You sound as though you ‘hate’ quite a bit there, which is a strong term to use and seems to be aimed at certain types of people, those that you see as manipulating gullible others for their own gain. I’m not a lover of Rupert Murdoch although I know little about him, but I subscribe to Sky t.v. nonetheless. My dislike of him is irrational as I don’t know him. What disturbs me a little is something a bit deeper, although I don’t lose sleep over it, is that we are guilty I think of so much pre-judging in life, anything or anyone we have little or no contact with, we make assumptions based on prejudice and without fully knowing the subject of those prejudices. I think these feelings transfer to television programmes too.
How easy it would be for me to say that cricket is utter tosh, and the most boring sport imaginable. Yet I’ve never ever watched a game of it. Who am I to judge?
I shall look forward to watching Susan Boyle on Sunday’s show

You’re quite right of course, I’m very guilty of pre-judging, but in my defense, I’ve got worse since I turned "middle-aged" so it my have something to do with rambling hormones. No excuse really, I hate far too readily, and I’ve turned into a right old bag, but I do know X Factor is not my "thang".
I’ll hang onto my licence while QI is still on BBC2
November 22, 2009 at 20:21 #260053Found myself laughing at Harry Hill this evening which just happened to be on the telly; bit worried about that…..

Totally agree with you, although in my case it is obviously the andropause rather than menopause

It moves to BBC1 for the new series – a brilliant program and one of the very few I will sit down and watch.
It says a great deal for the standard of television that with the 100 odd channels I have on Freesat I can only find about four or five hours of programming a week that I will actually sit down and watch.

lol…fair enough and I’m sure you’re not alone in this.
I think it’s better to have an opinion and the nerve to express it, as you have, than none at all.November 23, 2009 at 06:36 #260093I’ll hang onto my licence while QI is still on BBC2

Totally agree. I tend to watch documentaries and anything "Dave" puts on. Oh and the racing of course
December 13, 2009 at 16:00 #263695I hope Joe wins tonight…
some of my family know Olly, but I prefer Joe as a singer, and he’s a credit to the youth of today I think. He seems a most upstanding young man with a confidence that defies interpretation…
it would be nice if they wrote some of their own songs though, it would give us a better idea of just who they are and what they’re capable of. Perhaps that will come later.
Will we all be watching?

edit:-
at least on this show, the right person won !well done to Joe McElderry
December 14, 2009 at 00:44 #263756Stacey was the best singer,shame she couldn’t articulate herself.
Out of the boys,so glad that the Olly didn’t win and wish young Joe all the best.
December 14, 2009 at 00:54 #263759The young gay lad won then?
Rather him than the othe twot.

Don’t think that Joe is gay,but Olly is certainly a twat.
Here he is on DOND,turning down 22k and winning a tenner

Olly presented Joe with a dilemma…
December 14, 2009 at 19:14 #263858Both finalists were quite bland and Stacey was the one with a bit of character and had a nice bubbliness about her.
December 14, 2009 at 20:24 #263865Did you hear George Michael (On Saturday) say about Joe "he really rose to the occasion?!!!"

Ohhhhhhhhh Matron!!!!!!!!
By the final few weeks I was bored witless by the final 3 or 4. Joe reminded me of R Wayne from the Peter Kaye send up, Stacey was turned into Daganham Dion and Olly into a bad sixties tribute act that you might see at a Social Club on the South Coast!
Still, another few million in the bank for Mr Cowell, which is what the shows all about and I have nothing but bile & vitriol about a show that has made 80’s power balladeers Journey popular again!!!!!!
December 14, 2009 at 20:36 #263867Until a few minutes ago whilst checking You Tube, I had never heard of Journey or Miley Cyrus for that matter. I prefer Joe’s versions by a long way.
Joe reminds me, not of a young Cliff Richard but more a Neil Sedaka/Gene Pitney hybrid..
Neil’s voice, Pitney’s looks, but with far more charm
