Although some may be okay on their own similar looking tracks with small fields I wouldn’t have thought American commentators would be very adaptable and suitable to commentating elsewhere and would be a poor choice.
Think they would all need plenty of training up before being let loose on a Wokingham or Stewards Cup.March 26, 2023 at 21:42 #1641615Larry collmus is an excellent commentator
Given some memorable calls over the years
His call of arrogate vs california chrome one that immediately comes to mind, one of the better dirt races in recent memory
“Arrogate steals the showww in the breeders cup classic”
His zabeel mile line
“At the 16th pole it is Isolate and he is all by himself”
I did enjoy
March 27, 2023 at 14:00 #1641639They should have sent for Simon Holt.
My thinking was it’s more a late Ronnie Barker type of things to say.

You've got to accentuate the positive.
Eliminate the negative.
Latch on to the affirmative.
Don't mess with mister in between.March 28, 2023 at 10:43 #1641693I was expecting this to be Jerry Hannon…..
March 28, 2023 at 10:53 #1641694Hannon would not have liked it. On a straight track he would not be able to say “They have gone past their place of departure”.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"March 28, 2023 at 15:00 #1641723To be fair, Des Scahill used to use the ‘as they pass their point of departure’ line in nearly every commentary as well, as well as ‘as they jump the one that’ll be the last next time”.
March 28, 2023 at 16:21 #1641745Bartlett has some quite interesting skills too. In staying chases he likes to inform us about the total number of open ditches to be jumped and which particular obstacle each of them is.
March 28, 2023 at 16:52 #1641758I’ve heard it said that the aforementioned commentator performs miracles every time he calls a race by doing so despite the apparent presence of a gigantic plum in his mouth.
But I think that’s unfair – it might be another form of fruit.
