I might do that (buy the DVD collection). Meant to watch it on BBC 2 but the challenge of finding time every single night was too great so I decided not to attempt it.

The Sopranos will take a bit of surpassing here in Cormack Towers though.

^^^^^ saves me from saying what i’d have said. I don’t like watching them on tv anyway, too much space between one episode to another.

Great choice Wallace. My daughter bought the box set, but I’ve only just finished watching the first series. Up there with The Sopranos. I’m struggling at the moment to find the time to watch the rest of the series, but have got that to look forward to.
    Would also highly recommend

    Breaking Bad

a darkly funny tale about a chemistry teacher who uses his knowledge to make crystal-meths to pay for his cancer treatment. Catch it if you can.

Its a great series, with some fantasticly written characters. Once i’d gotten used to the baltimore ‘twang’ you can’t help but love this series.

Characters like stringer bell, frank sabotca, d’angelo barksdale, clarence "sheeee-iiiit" royce and bodie are amongst my favs but season 4 about the kids takes some beating. The wire at its best.

Just bumped this up having asked on another forum which series people found had a satisfying ending. And realising I still haven’t watched The Wire. I may try again but I couldn’t understand what they were saying and it didn’t have subtitles.Since this thread was started I’ve wasted 10 years of my life watching Game of Thrones, only to find myself unable to rewatch any of it after season 8. I used to watch each episode several times. I’ve just felt a bit let down by season III of Britannia albeit still enjoying it and quite happy to watch it again. It’s totally bonkers. I’ve been told that the end of Breaking Bad is good but I haven’t watched it beyond season one because I prefer historical stuff.I haven’t seen The Sopranos or Sherlock and can only watch things that I can buy on dvd. I feel there’s so much to watch and not enough time.

I’ll put up a few Moe, but I try to avoid giving away too much. I know it’s
fun exchanging quotes and scenes from a series where both have watched it, I
even hate watching trailers, they give half the bloody story away

Breaking Bad has been mentioned and it is addictive.

Bridgerton is one my wife wanted to watch, if I’m honest I wasn’t
really looking forward to it (period drama) but it was enjoyable.

If you’r into sci-fy Stranger Things is really good.

The Queens Gambit, albeit about chess, but that’s not the whole story
is very good. Anya Taylor-Joy is excellent.

Giri/Haji is worth the watch, it’not all in Japanese, just the 1st bit
with subtitles, until the main character (detective) has to go to England.

Last but by no means last, Ozark is one of my fav’s, but give it an episode
or 2 to get into it. It’s worth it

That should keep you going :good:

PS. Has anyone looked at the Boris vid I put up in “it’s Starmers job to call for
Boris to resign”, a day or so ago. It’s slid down the page a bit. It’s been up in
Youtube for 4 days and got 610,000 views. Boris and Rees-Mogg sing The Beastie Boys,
You Gotta Fight for your right (to party) It’s well put together and worth a look.

I watch Stranger Things when I dog sit at my daughters but the pandemic stopped all that. I did enjoy the two series that I did see, I’ve got Breaking Bad season two with me. I must give it a go. I did enjoy season one but then GOT’s took over my life.

I can concur “Ozark” is excellent.

“Narcos” is another series I would highly recommend and if you don’t mind “sub-titles” the Dutch series “Undercover” is a cracker.

Last week I watched a film called “The Gentlemen” – which included Hugh Grant in the cast as a seedy red-top journalist: He was a revelation in the part and gone-up in my estimation of his acting abilities.

Don’t watch many but the wire was the finest for me until last year

Big fan of narcos. Violent yes but very wide ranging too

Homeland im on series 6 and Unlike many I much prefer the latter series. Good stuff

But the best ever for me has been the bureau. French low key but gripping series on intelligence agencies

I tried The Wire again last night with subtitles but it still didn’t grab me. I’m going to persevere, though.

Here’s one for you – Gomorrah. On Sky. Italian mob series based in modern day Naples. Excellent.

Can concur that Narcos is very good. Going back a little bit I liked The Bridge.

The Sopranos and The Wire are hard to beat to be honest (I’d have the Sopranos if I was only allowed one of them onto a desert island, but the standard of a fair number of the newer (i.e. post 2020, which counts as ‘new’ to me at least) drama series is very good. I think the budgets they are able to drum up these days allow them to hire the very best writers and producers.

What would your desert island TV series be?

Spiral because I’ve yet to start it! Everyone I know who’s seen it believes it’s the best of the lot

Brother raved about Gomorrah but at first I thought he was talking about a sexual disease and I thought it a bit odd

Never seen much of it as it’s not my thing but I’d take Game of Thrones to my desert island as I’d have plenty of, er, time to myself.
