When will they learn? If they talk up a ‘star’ signing the public’s gonna expect one of three men: Gamble, Professor Sir Mordin or the Big Chief. Anyone else is a bitter disappointment.

This guy’s about five years behind the times. Welsh Emperor capable of winning a Group 2? Mordin disciples knew that after his maiden win in 2001.

I think that some competition for the RP is a good thing but have grave doubts that the market is there to sustain it in this internet age. The Sporting Life of course ceased years ago.
I think that the revamp is a significant improvement, in particular the form comment for each horse set out as per the RP and leading with a racing story, ditching the "other sport" section. This was a disaster- more authorative comment could be seen in the sports supplements of the nationals. I used to throw my supplement straight away.
Sportsman also has some interesting columnists and tipsters.
However I fear the changes are too late and the title will not recover. Two large supermarkets near me used to stock it but have now ceased. Good idea by Jilly to save the first edition as I don’t believe it will last.

The people at The Sportsman have at last realised that there isn’t a viable market for a paper which focuses on sports, ie non-racing, betting.

Apart from a fairly small coterie of shrewdies, most sports betting is carried out by mugs, who are not interested in "form".

I stick with my expressed view that it’s a turkey- good money after bad and there is no market for it
