They could have named it after a jockey i.e.
The Sir Gordon Richards/Fred Archer International
Challenge Cup.
I still wouldn’t watch it but it sounds better

Another way of saying ..
A lot of fuss about nothing...just about sums it up..
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...August 8, 2017 at 09:14 #1313247It’s one meeting one day of the year. I personally don’t like it but nobody’s forcing anyone to watch it or to place any bets on it. There’s plenty of other racing around to lose money on!
August 8, 2017 at 12:15 #1313260The only interest I have in it is being able to watch foreign jockeys and see if they are any good!! LOL
From a betting point of view I shall not be burning the midnight oil on Friday to study form!!I have to agree with Jac regarding the name of it too!!
The Shergar Cup should be a race at Epsom to honour the great horse!!August 8, 2017 at 14:11 #1313270No worse than gingers idea of a Premier League………

You’re certainly not alone though Middle, it would be a very rare year if we didn’t get a thread up about it.That’s a challenge, Nathan. Just for you I’ll give the Premier League another shot.

I was well and truly against the Shergar Cup when it first started. Remember Fallon sacrificing his chance by totally changing usual tactics on an outsider; so as the stronger pace/stamina test was to his team mates advantage. “Team Captains” etc.
Tthey’ve changed it a bit and doesn’t seem to be team tactics anymore. Not going to get good quality racing between Goodwood and York anyway. Still not my cup of tea -neither are cups of tea tbh. Not every meeting needs to be to my personal taste and there are alternatives for us “true enthusiasts” on a Saturday. I’ll be looking elsewhere for a bet. Never thought I’d say this – if they are right that it’s successful in bringing a different clientel to our sport – fair enough.
Value Is EverythingAugust 11, 2017 at 11:15 #1313492I went to the Sydney Arms in Chelsea yesterday and got video interviews with four of the jockeys taking part in the Shergar Cup. They’ll be posted on the same link as the day goes on. First up, Hayley Turner.
August 11, 2017 at 11:27 #1313495Did you manage to get a word in with Michelle Payne Simon?
August 11, 2017 at 15:22 #1313509No sadly, she legged it before my slot – she is in the background in some of the Keita Tosaki video though!
August 11, 2017 at 20:18 #1313531Ah yes, good work! I enjoyed you putting Calvin in his place on Twitter – the man is losing it I’m sure.
August 12, 2017 at 08:44 #1313594Thank you, yes he really is a strange individual isn’t he? He’s like a brooding drunk bloke in a pub with no mates just itching for a fight with total strangers.
You really are the gift that keeps giving Tony. As a decade long member of the HWPA & Star's social media & content writer I was invited.
