Does anybody know anything about a new paper to be launched on Grand National day priced at £1.80.
March 24, 2018 at 11:07 #1347932All I know is that, on past results, if a new racing paper launches on National day, it will be dead by Derby day.
March 24, 2018 at 14:28 #1347980Haven’t heard a thing about this chestnut?
Anyone got the name of it?
Joe’s right though not many last long, but surely, something has to take on the RP at some point. It’s getting worse by the day, but sadly its so engrained in the racing community it will be hard to budge.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!March 24, 2018 at 15:16 #1347985Launching any kind of newspaper in this day and age seems a rather foolish proposition but when you narrow your target audience further in making it a one sport only paper, you really do need your head examined for thinking it could work anywhere past the immediate short term (purely for its novelty value).
Anyone backing that financially would be better advised to fill a skip up with their cash and set it on fire as you are much more likely to get a better return from doing that.
If it is still in publication come Derby Day then that would be a minor modern day miracle and it should then undoubtedly be classed as a successful venture.
March 24, 2018 at 18:58 #1348010According to the advert it is called ‘The Racing Paper’ launching Saturday 14th April, previewing all the weekend’s racing and key sporting action, only £1.80 every Saturday
March 24, 2018 at 19:21 #1348011It’s coming from Greenways Publishing who have The Non-League Paper and Rugby Paper among other things, including Racing Ahead monthly.
We sold the magazine to them a few years ago and it’s still going strong – about 14 years after many people on forums said it would last three issues!March 24, 2018 at 19:38 #1348013TRF should launch a paper

April 10, 2018 at 22:45 #1349710I am helping out with the new racing paper starting this weekend — The Racing Paper.
There are more details here:
https://greenwayspublishing.com/news/One of the things we’d like to do is offer opportunities for writers to get into print.
In particular are looking to add to the roster of writers for the race-by-race tipping guides and form comments. I’ve been a member of this forum for many years and have read a lot more sense here than in most papers!
So if you feel you can contribute, get in touch. The ability to analyse races and hit the deadline is more important than great writing skill.
If you send me a message on here with your email address I’ll get back to you.(By the way, I’ve cleared this post with cormack15 first)
April 10, 2018 at 23:32 #1349714NUJ pay rates, I assume?
April 12, 2018 at 03:25 #1349873I’ve been a (non-racing) columnist for many years, and I can tell you that what every writer wants, really, really wants, is to get paid.

There you have it: who needs newspapers when you’ve got t’internet?
The online world has democratised news and opinion, and empowered the vox populi. The hacks employed by the mainstream media have by and large been outed as capable wordsmiths able to construct grammatically appealing prose but content-wise – which is what matters – no better and frequently worse than the less erudite Joe & Jo Bloggs
I wish you well with this dead-tree venture but somehow feel it is akin to a soft-drinks manufacturer deciding this week is the ideal time to launch a treacle ‘n’ lard smoothie with ‘NO ARTIFICIAL SWEETENER’ writ large on the label
April 15, 2018 at 19:59 #1350668Did anyone buy this paper? Not on my shores so couldn’t, but interested to hear peoples thoughts

April 16, 2018 at 13:11 #1350738Yeah, same here, was going to buy it, but couldn’t see one.
April 16, 2018 at 13:20 #1350742I bought it. I thought it was perfectly serviceable. In fact I’ll be more than happy to buy it again on the strength of it’s first press.
April 16, 2018 at 15:02 #1350753Mulls, I’m interested in writing mate and have sent an email to the relevant address. Please let me know when you can. Thanks.
