As already mentioned, high class 3 Y O flat horses to stay in training for the next year

Tokens from bookmakers that are given to punters after, let’s say for example, every £20 in bets. Collecting certain amounts of tokens allows the punters to send off for free gifts to do with horseracing

Selling bags of manure from great racehorses. Imagine buying a ‘kauto enriched’ sack of manure so that you can grow some really top quality veg. Having a salad will never be the same again!

That’s the best idea so far
February 27, 2010 at 22:20 #279556Flicking through the football magazine When Saturday Comes today. High standards of writing, independent writers contributions & a load of interesting features.
Racing could do with a similar sort of magazine. Considering what gets wide distribution these days, I’m sure they could get it sold in WH Smiths. Something like the Weekender but with no racecards just articles.
Getting rid of jumps meetings where there are only six races (and one of them is a bumper) like at Towcester tomorrow wouldn’t hurt either. It’s a good job Towcester is free cos you wouldn’t pay to get in a meeting like that.

Stilvi has by far and away the best idea so far.
There’s little point in these internecine squabbles about funding if the core product doesn’t attract new viewers. Rightly or wrongly, today’s public sees the whipping of horses as barbaric and unneccessary; banning the whip completely would not only make the sport more attractive to many but also show who the really skilled horsemen are, as opposed to the thugs who use nothing but brute force to get their mounts home.

Are you aware of the monthly
Racing Ahead
, perhaps? Might go at least some way in meeting the remit you’ve outlined. Should be available in larger Smiths and Tesco stores.

Don’t believe Tesco stock it any longer, Jeremy.

February 28, 2010 at 09:34 #279608Got mine from the Stevenage Tesco a few days ago, Colin! Maybe it’s just the hypermarket-sized stores like that one that still take it.

February 28, 2010 at 10:21 #279621Ours is a "Tesco Extra"!
Haven’t looked for it since mulls informed me that Tesco wanted about a squillion quid to put it on their shelves, obviously the situation is on-going!

February 28, 2010 at 11:36 #279630It’s probably a year on since I asked on here about where to get Racing Ahead from. Diligently every month I go out in search and have never once seen it anywhere – Tesco, Smith’s, Sainsbury’s, Bob Martins – never – (it’s become a bit of a pastime for me)
However, it has always amazed me that you could possible name any other sport, hobby or pastime and there will be at least one magazine on the subject to choose from.
But, it can be subscribed to at Racing Ahead Website and it’s well worth doing so.
February 28, 2010 at 13:43 #279661I’ve seen it in my local Tesco Pompete.
February 28, 2010 at 14:46 #279676we need to get rid of small fields that have large pricepots, have more top handicaps so that the best horses need to take on lesser rivaL’s,put some tote shops next door to some of the big bookmakers, get some of newspapers writers on here not the racing post lot.but the mirror ,express the mail ,and let’s see what they can come with
February 28, 2010 at 16:07 #279685Racing Ahead can also be found in Asda.

I hadn’t heard of Racing Ahead, now I have & come payday I shall be getting a subscription. Good work fella!
Oh and I was right, you wouldn’t pay to get into a meeting like today at Towcester. Specifically, cos it was off!

A 600 mile round trip to buy a magazine. Thanks Corm, but I’ll give it a miss….
February 28, 2010 at 17:39 #279706Its a bit of a sign of how confused all this is that no one idea has grasped everyones imagination.
but
already mentioned, high class 3 Y O flat horses to stay in training for the next year
If there is anyway in which this could be enfoced (unlikely sadly)m it would be the best shot in the arm possible for top class flat racing
February 28, 2010 at 19:01 #279727Is too much being made of good flat horses not staying in training?
