With all this talk of Frankel and Black Caviar I thought I would take time to look at a horse which will never reach those heights but will still be someone’s pride and joy.

At Towcester on Tuesday Zeta’s Lad’s trainer John Upson saddles Kevin Fancy in the mares novices chase. She has been given an official chase mark of just 13 following a 177 length defeat at the course on her previous start. I wish all involved the best of luck and hope she springs a surprise and finished within 100 lengths of the winner. :)

    Oh dear! Last run:

With winner until 8th, hopelessly tailed off from 11th, eventually finished nearly a quarter of a mile behind winner

Best performance seemed to be when he unseated his rider at the first at Huntingdon in November.

    6.30pm race tomorrow. I’m not sensing a massive gamble…

    I think he did!

Very modest obviously but jumped well. Thought he ran fine for a 100-1 poke.

The handicapper will probably put her up 50lb for that :D

A career best effort she didn’t look too bad for the first couple of miles.

44l fifth of six and a provisional RPR of 65. Yep, could be a couple of stones’ worth of hike up the weights in the offing…

Will also be interested to see how literally the 65-rated Apache Dawn’s defeat of an 117-rated rival at Taunton on Tuesday evening is taken by the assessor, given Tommy Phelan’s enterprise may well have had more to do with his mount scoring a first win over jumps at the fiftieth attempt than anything else.
