    Nicky O’Shea from Tralee.

Very decent jock who probably hasn’t got the opportunities his riding talent deserves over the past few years. He had a few bad injuries about 3/4 years ago and he fell down the pecking order at Dessie Hughes’. Conor and Olly Brady would be his biggest supporters nowadays.

I’ve always been a fan of his since he earned me a packet on Wishwillow Lord at Fairyhouse.

IC, Thanks for the info on Nicky O’Shea, I watched a couple of his rides an he looks fine to me. How did a horse that had beaten Sweet Kiln go off at 33-1 in that field? Good spot sir!

I’m going in easy on FERRIS BUELLER though, not because of the jockey but because of the presence of HEADLINE ACT, who was odds on to beat Gitano Fernando two years ago….and duly oblidged!!!!!!
£10 ew each, if either drops out I’ll be back with more cash for the other

I don’t bet on Irish racing any more because, for the most part, it’s a complete farce, but surely Double Seven is unopposable (on his run behind Laughing Boy) in the opener at Sligo?

    it’s a complete farce,

In what way(s) is it a complete farce?

It perhaps applies more to National Hunt racing than it does flat, but at least half of every field can be eliminated in most races after all of a furlong. Whether Ireland has a disproportionate number of less-than-able horse I don’t know, but there are too many that

    appear

to be there for the day out rather than to try to be competitive.

When that sentiment applies to supposed market leaders as much as it does outsiders, betting becomes impossible and hence farcical.

There are plenty dire horses running in The UK too. Personally I’ve always found Irish racing easier to read and therefore easier to make money from on a consistent basis, year to year but, like any other type of racing, it takes time and effort to crack. Only UK Hunter chases have provided me with a better source of income.
Personally I don’t fancy the favourite in the first at Sligo but I rarely, if ever, back anything ridden by Mickey Walsh.

PS added another £5 ew on FERRIS BEULLER and a 50p Rev F’cast

Cheltenham, was impressed with Prince Erik yesterday in the last at Sligo, not one you’ve considered for your list?

I briefly considered him before Galway, especially as I’m always swayed towards the yard but I try not to have too many on my list.
I also tend to steer clear of horses with too many letters in their form line. He took a hefty fall at Galway and wasn’t foot perfect yesterday but there are races to be won with him I’d have thought.

Let’s hope so, I’ll be keeping an eye on him. Looking forward to the jump, season particualry in Ireland as I find the form holds up better.

I’m pretty new to racing, discovered it late (long story) so I’m following this thread in particular with great interest for a few winners (hopefully!!).

Prince Erik isn’t the biggest horse by any stretch of the imagination (half-brother to Katchit).

It’s all well and good jumping the fences at Sligo but I’d worry about him jumping around Punchestown, Naas or Leopardstown where the obsacles are much more imposing.

I managed to find a couple of pounds today, CS, and could kick myself that I didn’t bet on Askanna. Unusually for me – at least, increasingly – I was put off a bit by the fact that the tipsters seemed unimpressed by its form. I dind’t even bother to check it out or the race. Maybe it was a relatively small trainer’s horse. They ususally try not to spoil a gamble for them, I think.

I thought Cape Trib looked good, too.
