Only just noticed from your thread that Midnight Gun had run on Friday. As you know I bigged it up during Royal Ascot. Just thankful it didn’t win at a big price. At first glance, given the price it looks a disappointing performance, but he looked beat here, and showed a very good attitude. Crossing the line I think he still had something in hand. Perhaps coming from just off the pace might suit a little better? Not easy for an inexperienced horse to make all. The second was much more experienced, and in form. Still worth keeping a close eye on going forward.

I don’t bet that many of the midnights these days, and certainly didn’t bet him on Friday Night, but hopefully we can catch him somewhere at a price soon

I would be looking at a big mile handicap on a track that doesn’t need luck with the draw. That rules out Goodwood. I see he has an entry at Newmarket’s July meeting over 10f. I don’t like that at all. It’s too close, and sire and dam were milers. The trainer was on Luck On Sunday – not talking about this one – but he was advocating the ‘if it’s not broke don’t fix it’ idea. Exactly. Most important you keep a horse like this on an upward curve for as long as possible.
