Was Munir ever a large investor for Nicholls? Henderson is his main trainer with King seemingly his second trainer.
Nicholls is having a down period. All trainers have this. Henderson up until the last 4-5 years wasn’t close to the talent pool he has now. King has seen a decline recently. Pipe didn’t have the ammunition he has now. It’s cyclical and in some cases entirely variable on factors you cannot control.
Nicholls isn’t going to disappear. Perhaps he has a few medicore years by his standards, but he’ll still be one of the top trainers in the country.
Munir might not have been a large investor, but was a potential large investor, given his interest and investment in France. I am sure as you state this is a ‘down period’ for the yard, but there have been many high profile spats, be-it jockey’s or owners that have been well documented in the press. This cannot encourage people to invest in his yard and system, when the prize money is bigger in France and Ireland.
May 29, 2013 at 15:11 #441087According to press releases, the split seems amicable enough.
That said, I do take on board the point about Nicholls’ owners.
AP McCoy mentioned in his " My Autobiography " book that when he was riding for both Martin Pipe and Paul Nicholls, he chose to ride the Pipe hotpot ( Cyborgo ) over a promising Nicholls chaser in the same race.
McCoy said Nicholls was furious.
I think that was due to the fact it was Martin Pipe more than anything else.
May 29, 2013 at 21:14 #441123If Jacob rides like he did today on Propect Wells then Nicholls will be in for a baron spell.
The best horse in the race by miles at least 26lb ahead of the winner on official ratings. Both horses jumped equally well yet he was out ridden by Tom Cannon.
I may be wrong but I doubt Ruby Walsh would have got beat on it nor for that matter other top jockeys.
I think Nicholls as made a grave error of judgement with him.May 29, 2013 at 22:32 #441134I’ll never forget Neptunes Collonges crossing the line in the Grand National and the look on Nicholls face as he frantically flicked through the racing programme to check how much prize money was on offer – his first thought was the trainers championship.
When they called the result he initially celebrated on his own.May 29, 2013 at 23:35 #441136no idea, I think the only grave error of judgement is your assessment of Prospect Wells in that race. I don’t see how you can possibly say "both horses jumped equally well", as Prospect Wells was more cautious than Suerte Al Salto throughout and jumped left at all of the last five fences. Daryl Jacob was the first rider to shake up his horse, but Prospect Wells was not good enough to go with the winner.
I don’t think even a Tony McCoy power-drive would have got the favourite home there. Prospect Wells didn’t have the pace or jumping fluency.

Some posters on here never miss a trick to emit their bile and spite. Precisely what has that post got to do with this topic?
Nicholls and Walsh have been good for each other and they have provided us with some magical moments, notably at Cheltenham. Let us just celebrate that. Kauto Star regaining the Gold Cup, Master Minded winning his first Champion Chase in style and Big Bucks’ 4 World Hurdles- unforgettable!
May 30, 2013 at 05:33 #441145Noel Fehilly used to ride a fair bit for Nicholls, what happened to that arrangement?
Noel had a string of injuries just as he was beginning to establish himself as the second choice. Daryl Jacob took over on Master Minded and muscled in as Ruby’s understudy while Fehily was away.

Really? I got the impression that he was surreptitiously filling out his British National Party membership form whilst wondering how many kittens he could drown later on.

May 30, 2013 at 16:28 #441195I have to disagree The Young Fella.
I think Walsh or McCoy would have won it.
