    Expresso Star – Group horse?

I told you six weeks ago!!

He demonstrated enough potential to suggest he could be a Group horse at some stage this season.

    I got 10s. 8)

The J.Gosden pair (Charm school and Expresso star) both look like being very progresive 4yo types who could be better than handicappers later on in the season, what makes them so difficult to separate is that they are
rated virtually the same, have the same owner, are both about 10/1 and
both have a profile of form that says "Lincoln"! I wish i knew which one
will run! i personally favour Charm School ( Dubai Destination, out of a
Rainbow Quest mare) because he has ran twice over Doncasters 7f and will have developed physically over the winter, wiil like a bit of cut and
should find the mile trip perfect! Expresso Star may just find the mile a touch sharp and his American Breeding doesn"t tick the box his stable companions does!! I still hope Zaahid goes for the race too having been so well fancied for last years race, only to miss the cut. solid e/w at 16/1

BOS, Well done mate but i put this up over 2 months ago! Unfortunately mine is more like the fishermans tale about the one that got away! as i
convinced myself Charm school was the better prospect! Zaahid did me proud though! The sooner he gets a pair of blinkers on the better mind!

Well done all those who backed Express Star, was a decent performance. Definitely looks worth his place in listed class, but that is where we will probably get a better idea of how good he is. Expect he’ll be high enough in the ratings now, for to have any chance of another decent handicap win.

But as we’ve seen so many times before the step from hanciaps to listed is one of the hardest to make, because you get proper battle hardened group horses contesting listed races. When you look at how much Stronghold struggled to notch up wins in listed grade after an impressive big weight carrying run in the royal hunt cup, you’ll see that it is a bit early to be saying ES is a group horse.

Given that, and a little cut in the ground, I wouldn’t look anywhere else for the Lincoln winner.

March 4th – Well done Reet!

Would’ve been if I hadn’t misread his propensity for faster ground, Cav.
Still, I was in good company as both trainer and jockey expressed their own doubts before the race – but wtf do we know?

I would love to see Blythe Knight win. He has had a no hurdling campaign to try and keep him fresh for this. Big ask but sure to run well again after he got stuck on the wrong side last year.

Usually wouldn’t consider a trial winner but yhere was mega confidence behind Flipando in the trial which he won.. The only times he has won on grass the ground has be good to firm so there is no question marks there.

Fitness will play a big part tomorrow and there is no question he will strip one of the fittest to go to post.

Good EW bet at 12’s me thinks

Would you really say he’s had a no hurdling campaign on purpose, Aristo?

His run behind Choma Womba all but ended his hurdling campaign due to the serverley poor run.

I fancy him to have a massive chance tomorrow though.

Sorry missed your question HTH. In a sense you are correct. Just let’s say John got his own way and the horse won’t jump another hurdle. He’s 9 years old now and finding a hurdle race he would have had a realsitic chance in wasn’t going to be easy and a waste of petrol. He’s always been a much better flat horse and he’s run a cracker again yesterday. We will be seeing a lot less of the horse which seems the wisest thing to do and he may not run again until Epsom.

If he wins the Diomed again this year it should be renamed the Blythe Knight stakes

He always seems to pull out another extra effort and looks fantastic around Epsom

I agree, 7th in the Lincoln was a pretty good performance when you look at who was in front of him (and behind him for that matter)
