Dunn’o for me as his last run at Ascot puts him a mile clear of the rest here if the ground is on the better side but I have done Don’t Panic incase it’s soft on the day.

Swop is entered in a gp2 in Dubai tomorrow, and though unlikely to get a run, it looks clear that Luca doesn’t think his future lies in handicaps.
Espresso Star appears to have been purchased by Princess Haya on the sayso of John Gosden, has some impressive form in the book since, and could draw the kind of weight that could encourage Frankie to make an early start to the flat season. Given that, and a little cut in the ground, I wouldn’t look anywhere else for the Lincoln winner.March 4, 2009 at 15:57 #213389Expresso Star ran in Princess Haya’s colours last year Reet.

Certainly one for the short list. His defeat of Suits Me looks better all the time and can be ridden a number of different ways on all evidence so far.
March 4, 2009 at 16:39 #213401The 2 Gosden horses look the best candidates, but thats very much what the market is telling us anyway. He’s not going to run both so there strikes me as no value in either guessing which one or coupling them.
March 4, 2009 at 17:16 #213410Couldn’t have a 3 times defeated in handicaps, 180000 gns gelded after 2 runs, hold up horse that’s already had headgear applied, in a month of Sundays. No comparison in the two of Gosdens imo.

Maybe there’s some connection I’m not aware of DJ, but he was owned by Stonerfield Stables until after he’d won at Hamilton?
Agree with Cav that ES looks much the better prospect, and at 10/1 there’d be worse bets struck, but I’ll wait and see if everything’s right for the day, and settle for a possible 5’s or 6’s.March 4, 2009 at 18:51 #213425Apologies reet
Sheikh Mohammed purchased Stonerside as a whole entitiy that included the racing stock, by the time Expresso Star was on my radar, he was already in the Haya silks.
March 15, 2009 at 14:47 #216493Agree the lightly raced 4 & 5yo’s are thin on the ground this year. I went straight to the Stoute & Hills entries, but I can’t really get enthusiastic about them. The Gosden pair do look possibles, but neither look really thrown in. Then you are with the more speculative possibles like Fireside, Whistledownwind & Orientalist Art. Not sure who I’ll go for yet.
As well as picking a unexposed one, I do like to try & find something reliable that will run a good solid race. This year the pin has come down on Benandonner. He’s not hanicapped to win, but run well in the Spring Mile last year. The race & conditions may will suit him, & he’s an early season horse that has had a prep run. Imo he’s a fair enough each way gamble at 33/1.
March 16, 2009 at 17:52 #216794My short list so far…..
Ansells Pride
Arabian Spirit
Bencoolen
Big Noise
Charm School
Expresso Star
Fireside
Lucky Dance
Manassas
Mangham
Orientalist Art
Pravda Street
Slugger O Toole
WhistledownwindCharm School – Fairly certain he wont be on the final list and a few probably dont have handicap marks high enough to get in.

Bang goes that theory.
Now down to a best-priced 5/1 after reportedly sparkling in a gallop this morning.March 21, 2009 at 06:40 #217648Wan’t to go skint quick have a bet in the Lincoln. I think I’ve had 2 winners in 40 years
I would have a few bob ew on the horse that won the trial if it runs and that’s about that. Very dangerous race and can’t possibly bet with any degree of confidence. Mugs game starts here.March 21, 2009 at 07:46 #217650Quite Like the look of
Mias Boy 25-1
Magnitude 50-1
Slugger O’Toole 33-1
The Osteopath 50-1
Exit Smiling 66-1
Carlitos Spirit 100-1probably in that order, but reckon Imay hold off on a bet for now
March 23, 2009 at 21:18 #218066Mias Boy (20s and 25, and has jimmy quinn booked up) and Slugger O’Toole (going a general 16s) starting to shorten a bit today. The 5day dec stage hasnt really thinned out the potential field out by much though.
March 23, 2009 at 22:34 #218076If it continues to dry I really like the look of Zaahid. Soft ground will do his chances no good though
he’s a decent Spring performer over this trip

Halfway, i can assure you Zaahid will have no problem with Soft ground,
its really fast ground he doesn"t like, thankfully the ground wont be a problem for him, just remember he was Ante-post fav for this a year ago
and missed the cut! He is nicely in this year! If he runs he"s a danger to all!March 24, 2009 at 01:05 #218095

Does anyone know if Dunn’o is running? with the possibility of the ground drying this horse for me should go very well.
