I think the answer in how much Fame and Glory has improved over the months should be judged through Mourayan and not through Masterofthehorse who didn’t handle the ground.
Fame and Glory finished only 1 length further in front of Mourayan yesterday than he did in the Derrinstown.
There was one big difference though: Mourayan ran no sort of race last time but yesterday he was always going well and ran an excellent race back in 3rd.
In have no doubt in my mind Fame and Glory has improved since the Derby but I would say in strength rather than he has all of a sudden sprouted wings. I doubt if he would beat Sea the Stars on good ground but given soft conditions it would taken a very good horse to beat him anywhere.
June 29, 2009 at 18:08 #237002I think the best guide to Fame And Glory’s merit is Golden Sword. That horse has put up three very similar and good performances and is probably the most solid horse to rate the race around. Zarkava decided the race was worthless before the event so he’s just sticking to his guns but there’s no doubt the Fame And Glory we saw yesterday was a better Fame And Glory than the one we saw at Epsom.
For what its worth I don’t think Masterofthehorse really stays a mile and a half and the fast early pace yesterday did for him.

Fame And Glory yesterday ran a lot better than he did at Epsom, I accept that. If I’m proved to be wrong, I’ll of course hold my hands up and say so and I don’t just stick to my guns for the sake of it. I believe Fame And Glory is a stayer and cannot even consider him as an Arc winner.

The race Murtagh reckons he should be aimed at is over 1m2f, He won two trials over 1m2f and AOB says dropping him back in trip would not be a problem.
No mention of the Leger which is surprising
June 29, 2009 at 23:32 #237067Come on Fist – when was the last time you heard O’Brien say "He wouldn’t want to step back in trip as he wouldn’t have the speed for it" about a Coolmore horse?
June 30, 2009 at 01:50 #237093See Fist it was really that simple with F & G.
Think if he goes for some 1m4f races clearly a AOB pacemaker will follow.
June 30, 2009 at 03:41 #237103Think mentioning 1m2f races is an indication they would want to face Sea The Stars again, can’t see Sea The Stars ever racing at 12f again now, and its the only way there going to face him, Murtagh said that Fame And Glory and Sea The Stars will surely face each other again but surely only at 10f, which is more in Sea The Stars territory.
June 30, 2009 at 13:41 #237128I think that Golden sword could maybe be a better option over 10f than F&G. I think Sea the Stars would have too much for F&G over 10f. That’s just a thought, i could be totally wrong of course.

How can anyone say See The Stars wont race at 12f again when his owner is an Arc addict who must be dreaming of owning a mother/son winning combo? I can’t see the Champion Stakes route being any better for him with soft ground being more likely at Newmarket than not.
Fame And Glory can probably improve to win an Arc. Reminds me of Hurricane Sky. Given good ground and sound bodies, I think we’ll see both colts at Longchamp.

Time to give this thread a bump. It’s nice when they stay sound and keep improving.
