August 8, 2011 at 11:27 #367545OUCH!!!!…. what a disaster, very painful yesterday….
Straight Lays for Day 3….. there was (-1.10pts) b/f from yesterday, that needs to be added to our total loss yesterday of (-8.15pts) which includes both baseball bets…. and our total losses after Day 3 is (-9.25)….. that hurts a tad…..
Trading for Day 3 is a different kettle of fish and shows why I’m so into trading…. I made a profit of 1.75pts from all 3 matches…. I really love trading guys, by LTD you only require one goal to be scored and you should be in a position to trade out with a profit….. anyway, I digress…. the profit from Trading after Day 3 is +6.85pts…..

August 10, 2011 at 10:52 #367688Hi guys….. still around, but no time to even look at footy and baseball…. family commitments still pending….
The missus is running around like a headless chicken and she keeps shouting Matron, Matron, but somehow I don’t think it OUR Matron….. it’s summat to do with babies and being great grand parents again…. I dunno, can’t these girls learn to keep their ankles together, I’m too young to be a GREAT grandad…..

August 12, 2011 at 23:22 #367885Thanks Billy…… I might not be around for awhile guys, you all know that I’ve been suffering with gout in my hand, rheumatism, and sciatica…… I’ve been suffering quite a lot in recent weeks and the doc required that I should take further blood tests, which I did…… it showed no rheumatism whatsoever and surprisingly there was no uric acid either, and if your suffering from gout then uric acid must be present…. it aint…..
So after the doc and visiting the physio, it is their opinion that I am suffering from RSI in my hand and that the bad sciatica is sitting for too long in an unsuitable chair…. well, considering that I spend over 10 hours a day EVERY day sitting in front of this machine studying the horse, football, baseball and roulette, they think that it’s this that’s causing the damage….. thinking about it, they could be right….. in their words, it’s hard enough spending 10 hours in front of these things when your 40, it’s bloody damaging if your still doing it at knocking 70, so they have asked me to slow down a bit, just to give it a try….. so I’ve agreed a maximum of 2 hours a day split into 2 sessions…. that’ll give me time for a few postings and answering emails, that doesn’t give me adequate time to study, but I told ’em that I’d give it a spin for 30 days…… so I will keep nipping in to take the wee, but I won’t be putting anything up because I’ll not have time to study, pity really, the trading was going well…..
So I’m having a holiday for a month guys, sorry about that…..

August 13, 2011 at 08:41 #367917See, you in a month MrE.
Get yourself a decent high-back office chair and pay for it with some of your winnings!
Seriously, the better the chair the better you will feel.
Enjoy your time with the family.

August 13, 2011 at 09:22 #367923Take care
MrE
and remember you only get one life – we are all simply "passing through" but am sure like me you want to hang around as long as possible.
So do as you are told but the question remains "can you teach an old dog new tricks?"
See you soon.

August 13, 2011 at 11:44 #367935Oh, I aint going anywhere guys, just stopping studying for a bit…..
Matron… a proper office chair??….. I’m sitting in the bedroom with a stool to sit on and the monitor sat on the window sill, there aint no room for a poxy office chair, nice thought though….Billy ‘Un….. it is difficult to teach old dogs, but we really don’t need any teaching do we….. it comes to something when the highlight of my day is getting wazzed on Grouse or a glass or two of red wine and trying to think of something to say to insult everyone on the forum….. it never comes over like that when I read it again in the mornings, but at the time of writing, I’m usually wetting myself….. good job Matrons got a bulk buy offer on Tena Pads…..

September 13, 2011 at 13:24 #370846Hello girls, I’ve missed you….. doc says to give it a rest for 30 days, well, it’s smack on the button, so here I am again, Billy Uns nemesis…… I received the odd whisper about a couple of you getting lonely and returning to Matron’s ample bosom, just be careful guys, he must be taking summat special to get a bosom that size…..
As for yours truly, I think the professionals may have been correct in their observations, this 30 day abstinence has appeared to work the oracle….. they told me at the outset that I wasn’t suffering from rheumatism, it was confirmed that I was actually suffering from another type ofism
called a Spoonerism and in the course of the conversation they decided that I had a bout of Cankers Wolic…… I don’t think it’s contagious, but Matron would probably know more about that medical affliction than I would…..

September 13, 2011 at 14:16 #370851MrE,
Nice to see you back and feeling better.
Nothing like 30 days solitary confinement on the "side ward" to sharpen you up!
I think Bill was getting lonely without you on the main ward.

September 13, 2011 at 14:38 #370853Many thanks Matron, I appreciate the welcome and it’s good to be back…. I’ve been reading some of the stuff and having a bit of a chuckle at the dingo’s expense…. I did hear that he was also feeling a tad unwell after an afternoon in your office, I asked him if everything was OK but he said that he was suffering with pains somewhere in his nether regions. I asked him what was wrong, "Rectum", said I, No says Bill, he hasn’t wrecked ’em, but Matron certainly made ’em bounce about a bit……

September 13, 2011 at 15:44 #370857Somewhere in my previous squitter I said that I made most of my profits from sources other than the horses and it was always thus, but recent afflictions have severely restricted my time spent at the P/C, so I had no other option but to drop all the other avenues, so it’s fare thee well to Roulette, trading, Xgames, and all the other items that required my time at this machine….. I needed to take a step back and look at what I could do to get myself a bit of pocket money, the obvious answer was to go back to the horses whereby I could just bet ‘n go….. so I delved into all my previous (and present) horse racing systems with the intention of finding the rainbows end….. of all my old stuff and odd bits and pieces, I found nothing better than the method that I was using prior to my enforced holiday, but there was a little something from way back that was begging to be inserted (sorry Matron) into my recent method and it looks to be a modest improvement…..
I have noticed that old Bully has been nipping back into the archives to dredge up some of the old systems….. wow!!!, there were some good ones way back of which one was called the "Majestic"….. I think Bully has already brought that one back up….. but, as with all systems. nothing lasts forever….. racing is forever changing and so must systems, a lot of old systems work, they just want bringing into the 21st century…..
There is no magic wand, there is no infallible system….. but there is an awful lot going for "Systematic Betting" which is not the same thing….. systems focus the mind, they give out much needed discipline, but when the flag falls, it is the individual punter that must decide whether or not that selection is actually worthy of a bet…… just because a selection has been made doesn’t mean that it should be a bet regardless of other consequences…..
I am going to put several of my profitable methods up on the forum with an explanation on how I use this information, you guys can choose to follow or ignore….. there are lots of guys on this forum that are far better at picking winners than I am and I’m not going into battle, I don’t enter into competitions…. these guys are courageous enough to put their tips up for everyone to see and that’s great, but that’s what they are, TIPS, what we should be doing, and is what Bully is trying to do, is to find systems whereby we are not just reliant on a person tipping…. a system would mean that we are all on the same selection and then it’s down to the individual whether he or she actually places any bets…..
I’ll start a new thread with a couple of good methods that have worked well for a long time, you guys can modify and adapt them to suit yourselves…… I’ll need another month off after all this typing…..

September 13, 2011 at 18:37 #370864Hiya
"Windy",
glad you are on the mend.
Now a little advice from my Mrs and you should be OK.
Nothing wrong with a little roulette but NOT all bloomin’ day.
Win a little and be satisfied and walk away until the next day – the trouble with us blokes she says is we will not be told! I disagree I tell her but not by you, then she gets the hump –
women eh!
I will be very pleased to read what you think have been your best systems and really look forward to what you have to say.
Sure, I have found a lot of archive inspiration and not only from this place and it is interesting you mention
THE MAJESTIC
which can form the basis of some solid work. Things and times change just as you say and I will offer up a little piece of advice which is as I believe it to be, not one system will provide all the answers and sometimes an amalgam of different systems can work better and as one more knowledgeable than I once said to me, it is sometimes the more simple ideas if left uncomplicated can work better.
My
MAJESTIC
is still evolving but is currently the best I have ever known and in fact it has changed so much I forget the original concept.
The Majestic according to Darrel
Non Handicap races
Forcast Favourite (any paper)
Former "D" Distance winner
1.2.3 LTO
Min 2/1IMO there are some superb elements incorporated within the concept and from it can be developed a sound start for selection but as old "Windy" says just because all the boxes get ticked you do not have to bet.
VDW put forward his selection method and used it as a springboard to remove as many horses in the race as possible before further investigation and even then would not limit himself to just the one choice or even a bet.

September 14, 2011 at 09:29 #370918Come on
"Windy"
we are all waiting to see what you are about to come up with and starting to get impatient.
I was looking (again) at The MAJESTIC and as said there really are some elements of it that simply cannot be argued with.
There is another "good" man who uses these boards and introduced and broadend my mind to not only VDW but also CLIVE HOLT who both used there own rating methods as a precursor to their final selections.
Clive Holt remarked he would never expect more from any selection that what it had already achieved and therefore a "D" distance win in the form line is a must.
Recent form will be an indicator of both ability and fitness.
So
Darrel
was on going in the right direction with his MAJESTIC
Prices taken, well is one of those things that will always come down to the individual and will always be argued about.
Darrel
wanted a high strike rate and like VDW preferred Non Handicap races and I suggest this restricts choice and limits the prices but once more will be down to the system operator.

September 14, 2011 at 12:49 #370927That surprised me Bully, it was almost intelligent….. There is no axe to grind with VDW with the exception that it’s quite complex and open to too many interpretations, in saying that, I believe VDW has his followers and they appear to be doing very well following his concepts, it’s just a shade more work than I intend to do…. after 50 years of betting, it’s time to let other simpler methods take the strain and I owe my continued existence in betting to these basic ideas, it is fair to say that I have taken the systems that have held me in good stead over the years and use them as it suits me…. they have been modified slightly as the years have gone by because of the arrival of new papers such as the Racing Post and of course, the arrival of the exchanges have thrown a few of the older systems into disarray, but time and effort from the younger ones can breathe new life into "forgotten gems"…..
It is also true that you shouldn’t follow any system selection blindly, these systems only serve to give me a shortlist of selections for any given day, I may or may not actually bet them…. you mentioned Clive Holt, his method of ratings actually work well, but again, you have to be selective….. yes, it’s important with his ratings, to look for the Distance and or Course win, but that is not of paramount importance to me, the most important aid to my betting when using any ratings/selections, is the going. It’s a personal thing I suppose, but I think that for me, the most important criteria to have on my side is the going…… I have no problem betting a horse on slow or heavy ground if that horse is a confirmed mudlark but I’d steer well clear if that horse had only ever ran well on good/firm….. just one of my many foibles…..
TO BE CONTINUED……
that last ones especially for you Bill…..MrE
September 14, 2011 at 13:45 #370928My reason for making my selections using systems/methods is to give me a group of selections from which I can strike a bet….. I always use a staking plan to suit whichever method I’m using, but I record to level stakes…… I see no reason whatsoever in not putting the updates and running totals on here for all members to see, I’m nonplussed at members who put the selections down and just don’t record their profit/loss, that’s a pointless operation because there aint many members that are going to go through all the maths just to work out whether a set of selections is worth following, so I would always keep my methods up to date providing I aint dead or dear old Matron’s tired me out riding a prolonged hectic final furlong, then I would leave it until the following day….
Although I’m a great believer in "value", it doesn’t always follow that all my bets are going to be big prices, but prices (and value) are linked to my strike rate and therefore I have no problems with "dutching" or splitting stakes on selections made in the same race as long as a profit can be made whichever of the selection wins, I don’t bet to break even or to "save" should my selection go astray, I bet to win money, not to break even…… if I lose, there’s always tomorrow…… but all that is applicable to staking plans and not system selections, but why I mention them both is that this is what I’m about…. I am into "systematic betting" in it’s complete form, systems are to do with BOTH selection AND staking…… belt and braces……The systems that I will put up over the next few days are all "working" systems, by that I mean that they actually do work…. I define a "working" system as one that produces a reasonable profit over any 12 month period…. there will be losing or skinny months, but over 1 year it will show you reasonable profits……
A reasonable profit will be different between you and me, but I consider myself long enough in the tooth to know what isn’t achievable from betting, so my criteria for "reasonable profit" is that I should make between 5pts and 10pts profit per month with an ROI of at least 15%…..
As stated earlier, it is up to yourselves to squeeze any extra out of these methods, you can modify them to your hearts content, it’s pleasing to know that you can mess around and change criteria when your safe knowing that the basic method is a safe foundation, because, should you falter and stumble, you can still go back to a profitable beginning……
