Cheers, Tuffers. I put the word
interesting
not
holy grail
at the end of the post. Thought it would be good to stimulate some
discussion
on what has made these seemingly very public horses still such good betting propositions and what if any traits they may share. There was no great claims. If anybody had put up five more horses that have received more commentary than Sea The Stars, Canford Cliffs, Workforce, St Nicholas Abbey and Frankel over the last few years for comparison….
But no, the usual thread hijacking by the utterly tiresome gingerbollox and a few almost as tiresome reactionary aftertiming jibes from someone who’s missed the point entirely.
Don’t be so
gingerphobic
.
All I did was to respond to two posts in
this
thread by Joibake and Ian which questioned the "value" concept. So it is ok to question the value concept without a right to reply is it? When it became clear Ian wanted to continue the "value" train of thought, I made a point of stopping the discussion straight away. Contrary to your description of what’s happened, I made a point in
NOT
"
hijacking
" your thread. May be it was not your intention to be anything to do with value, but as Jonibake’s first post suggests, it is whether you like it or not.
When Kasparov said "Looks like aftertiming to me", I made a point of saying I do not see it as aftertiming. Defending your position Cav. I think everyone would agree it is impossible for anyone to produce a list like you did, without a sub-concious subjective opinion of what is and what is not a hyped horse.
As I implied in my previous posts Cav, if you did a thread pointing out hyped horses when they actually happen, and then take a look at their subsequent efforts; results would be interesting. The points I’ve made in my "critiscism" of your post are almost exactly the same as other members, including Tuffers (though may be he’s more tactful).
It is not as if I criticise everything you do Cav, you did not find me "utterly tiresome" in your "Jumps Trainers in November – first run of season" thread. When I said:
on Sat Nov 06, 2010 11:00 am
"Interesting stuff Cav. Always been interested in trainers in form and good record first time out. Combining the two is worth keeping an eye on". And…
on Mon Dec 06, 2010 12:17 am
"Great stuff Cav".I am sorry you took exception to the exaggeration of my point (regarding Canford Cliffs). Surely not such a big deal? Be assured I do read your posts before commenting. You may think people have "missed the point", but in my opinion you’ve missed a negative angle to your original deleted post and over-reacted to criticism. Whatever you may think of me Cav, I regard you as a valued contributor and will continue to be interested in your opinions on all manner of racing subjects.
Best of luck
GT
Value Is EverythingJune 24, 2011 at 13:10 #362310Interesting thread – pity it went a bit ‘off-topic’ but sometimes the meandering ways of a TRF thread can work in our favour, not this time though. I think we’ll start a ’round-book’ thread and divert any discussion of prices/percentages to there in future!
Oh come off it Corm.
Look, I do NOT mention value in any thread unless other people on that thread are negative towards value (see page 1 of this thread). Am sorry if some people have taken exception to that.
Stopping the discussion about value will just enable people to write any rubbish they wish about betting, without others being able to question their beliefs.
And enable punters who believe number of winners is everything to challenge value punters; without value punters being able to challenge them.

it always amazed me when reading this kind of article.i think for me it is a logic to the races that the one who wins the race are the best horses.

June 24, 2011 at 14:15 #362326fhrt,
To be fair to Cav, I don’t think his intention for this thread was ever meant to be what it became.
Value Is EverythingJune 24, 2011 at 15:29 #362334Apologies to all for my tetchiness on this thread and thanks for the replies. Bad day yesterday but I’m OK now.

Will check out the horses mentioned later.
June 24, 2011 at 15:48 #362336Already forgotten Cav.
(Smilie for thumbs up).
Value Is EverythingJune 24, 2011 at 17:14 #362344Don’t worry Cav – this forum can drive anyone to the brink.
