Nathan ……sure the euro star is a great man , hop into a taxi and bobs your uncle

Longchamp is a bit of a crazy gaff …empty for 99 per cent of the year …but on arc weekend , all the nutters come out to play …plus a shed load of brits try the tote for a bit of co mingling /…lol
Its a good weekend though . the saturday racing is brilliant , and you have the gaff to yerself !!!cest magnifique
Driving seems a bloody long way to go ….
Ricky
The old chap and myself have been to the Arc weekend the last three years, if you saw anybody wandering around in shorts then that would have been us. I was however a bit disappointed this year. The Saturday was definitely busier, certainly more expensive to get in and getting a drink was a darn sight more difficult than previous years. To top it all on the Saturday they wouldn’t let you in to the grandstand to watch the races unless you had bought a grandstand ticket unlike the two years previous. I wrote an email to France Galop which someone did reply promising a further reply which has yet to materialise. The likelihood is that we may not go next year which is a shame because the racing is fantastic.
So any recommendations as where to visit if Longschamps is given the elbow?
December 23, 2014 at 18:04 #499333Aaron , thats plain wrong , I will ask one of my friends in France Gallop to have a look at …does not make sense at all , I will come back to ya
I would recommend the trotting in Vincennes , a fantastic day/ or night out …for a good laugh Friday night , sat in Longchamp should be the business , but if not , Ill be back with an alternative
Nathan , its broad as long . the airport is a good way out as well
Im a big fan of the train though as I can relax and have a few laughs with racing nuts on the way ….5 years ago I won 1250 euros in 30 minutes at poker (cough …)proceeded to spend/and lose every penny of it …sigh
December 23, 2014 at 20:13 #499342We always go on the train and make a long weekend of it. How much does it cost now, then for Arc day? We paind hardly anything; in fact, if I’d worn a hat it would have been free.

We do pretty much the same. Eurostar on the Friday, hotel for three nights in Suresnes and return on Eurostar Monday. It’s still not overly expensive to get in to Longschamps but three years ago it cost us 12 euros for the two days. On the Saturday we could sit in the grandstand and watch the racing no problem, this year they had people on every entrance barring you from sitting down even though the majority of seats were empty. We would have considered paying extra to view the races from the grandstand but as we hadn’t had to do that before we wrongly expected to be able to do so again on the basic admission price. This year the weekend ticket we bought was 26 euros so in essence the ticket prices had more than doubled and we couldn’t access the grandstand as we had previously.
Ricky, I initially sent the email to intl@france-galop.com but got no response. I then sent it to cdelporte@france-galop.com and got an answer from Nathalie Cognat saying she would enquire with the food providers and get back. I responded that the catering facilities were secondary to the increase in prices and the reduced access to the grandstand on the Saturday and I’ve not heard a word since. It may seem slightly petty to complain but on talking to several people who had visited for many years they were of a similar opinion. It gives the impression that the increased popularity of the weekend with the general English public has led to the powers that be milking it for all its worth. Dreadful aftertiming here but all three years we’ve been I’ve finished in profit on the betting front so it shows how disappointed I was that we are considering not going next year.

Ah well, I don’t think we will be bothering then. It could be we wait a month and take in a weekend meeting at Auteil instead meaning we could still stay in Suresnes and not be too far from the course.
Thanks for enquiring
