February 20, 2015 at 22:41 #751625Very disappointed there’s no sign of Minella Foru in the Grand Annual. Presumably something amiss with that one, as he’s on a very lenient mark.

February 27, 2015 at 09:37 #755511Rajdhani Express looks really interesting to me – 2m5f is just the right trip for him and he’s won at Cheltenham before. despite Sam’s best efforts, he cruised into the race at the weekend 3 out and then was allowed to come home in his own time – undoubtedly off a really competitive mark and the drop back to 21 furlongs is just what the doctor ordered. Nicky likes this race and 20/1 :)
February 27, 2015 at 23:03 #761933Couple from GDC not Manchester!!
Lac Fontana at 33s for Coral Cup and Le Mercurey 11s for the Martin Pipe with Caid du Berlais EW against Taquin de Seiil and RFC in Plate
February 28, 2015 at 22:27 #770123I like the look of a young lightly raced sort for the Festival Plate.
With the news that Taquin Du Seuil may head for the Ryanair it seems a decent enough time to get a wager on before he’s pulled out for sure and others trimmed a shade.
Camping Ground is only five years old and represents Robert Walford. He’s won a few races in France in good style and made his debut on these shores at Warwick three weeks ago, where he shouldered 11st 12lbs to victory off his 145 mark in taking style.
He was raised 9lbs for his victory as 5/2 Fav and the punters seemed aware that he was a horse of promise. It’s sort of hard to get your head around the fact that his new rating of 154 puts him on the same mark as the three years older Taquin De Seuil after just one chase in this country.
Obviously he’s a bit short on experience but he could be open to a good amount of improvement yet and his record under rules so far is a pleasing six wins, a second and a third from nine starts. The stable don’t have a lot of winners but have picked away at about 20% in Jan and Feb and the horse appeals to me as a distance winner who seems upwardly mobile. One concern might be the going as most of his runs have been on soft and there is a vast disagreement on one of his runs where the ATR website give the ground as good and The Racing Post say it was heavy!
Anyway at 14/1 I’ll take a punt in a race where Taquin Du Seuil was one of the few who appealed to me and might no longer be headed.
Festival Plate Camping Ground 14/1
Carry On Camping.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

March 2, 2015 at 12:46 #779891It’s never a great idea to try second guess Tony martin but i think Marinero could be a bit of a job horse for the Martin Pipe,he’s only won one of his 3 starts over hurdles but noticeably that was his only hurdle start over further than 2 mile (it was 2 mile 2 furlongs) and the form of the race doesn’t look too bad,2nd hasn’t run since but the 3rd and 5th have won maiden hurdles and the 4th place horse Riviera sun(beaten 21 lengths) was 8 3/4 lengths behind Windsor Park next time out.
Gigginstown seem to love the race, won it last year with Don Poli and in 2011 with Sir Des Champs and were unlucky in 2012 with Toner Doudairies beaten a neck and had Make your mark 4th in 2013. The step up should suit Marinero and will probably end up a 3mile chaser in time(has won a point to point) He’s rated 134 in Ireland but is alloted 138 by the UK handicapper which doesn’t seem overly harsh and at the minute he’s my MP horse.

Gigginstown also have Roi Des Francs and McKinley in there and or my money Roi Des Francs is treated very leniently on 139.
I’ve taken 40/1 (Ladbrokes) about Sandra Hughes’ Art Of Payroll in the novice handicap chase. They have form with this horse regards getting him handicapped, but they over did things last season as he was lowly rated to get into the County Hurdle. He absolutely cruised home off a mark of 127 in a handicap hurdle at Leopardstown instead.
He’s been out for three runs over fences, and although a mark of 137 looks high on what he has done over the larger obstacles, he’s definitely capable of much better than what he has done and looks a real plot. He’ll improve for the likely better ground and at 40/1 he’s well worth a punt.

I’m on Hostile Fire myself Darren, can see the reasoning behind Sempre Medici too but I’m a sucker for The Game Changer, always liked the horse and the move to Elliott’s stable won’t do him any harm.
March 3, 2015 at 21:02 #782652I’m not a religious person but I’ve found myself hoping and praying that Mick Jazz manages to get into the Fred Winter having backed him ante-post at 20/1. Harry Fry’s inmate seems to be fairly treated off a mark of 130 but that has left him at number 35 in handicap and with a reduced maximum field of 22, I think there’s more chance of a run in the Midlands National. It must also be slightly worrying for supporters of Hostile Fire as the favourite is in need of 9 pulling out to be sure of a run. In light of this it may not be a bad idea to take the 16s on offer about Starchitect. It’s worth remembering that Donald McCain’s four year old has only been bettered so far in his career by the top 2 in the betting for the Triumph Hurdle. Those defeats came after looking impressive in turning over an odds-on shot at Aintree. He’s not fantastically handicapped of 133 but it’s enough to see him get a run and should a return to better going bring about any amount of improvement, then he could be a nice each-way bet.
March 3, 2015 at 21:16 #782714Have backed three;

Sorry, but Harry Fry has said the horse is finished for the season.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Paul Kealy has tipped him up in todays Weekender.
You’d expect better from the head of tipping at Racing Post
March 4, 2015 at 12:56 #787801Hello,
Can any our Irish colleagues enlighten us whether they believe the weight allocations to the Irish contingent as a whole has been fair. Or has the UK handicapper ‘added’ a few pounds here and there.
Also, a further request – any horses that our Irish comrades believe may have got in ‘lightly’, although I don’t believe the UK handicappers are prone to gifting the Irish
regards,
doyley
