Nothing stops Sky Lantern this year(expect the rain perhaps
). This race has been the plan ever since the stewards cock up of last year. She will be primed to the minute. Clive is worried about Riz losing every time at the course and is likely to route her elsewhere. Stoutey’s horse is an improver but a fully fit Sky Lantern will put her in her place at the top level. Miss France, Certify and the others will be cannon fodder and bait to the grey colossus.

June 29, 2014 at 14:29 #484330Sky Lantern looked like a bull in the paddock at Ascot, if not too fit. Evidently, the filly improved (physically) quite a bit over the winter and the Duke of Cambridge was always going to be a prep for Newmarket, for which I would have no doubts regarding her fitness. Integral however, was impressive and will certainly give Sky Lantern something to chase into the final furlong. Weather permitting the grey will take all of the beating, rightfully so. However, I backed Sky Lantern as if defeat was out of the question last year and don’t intend to get caught out again (I was inconsolable for quite a while after that, I’m still bemused as to how Hughsie wasn’t given the race by the stewards). To be fair though you have to be quite forgiving to back her. She ran flat at Ascot and as for Hong Kong; well maybe she was given a dodgy in-flight meal (I’ve always been a bit sceptical of Ryanair in that department). It is interesting that Certify like Sky Lantern has had the Falmouth in mind for a while and is all set for Newmarket. Again, Certify looked magnificent before the Duke of Cambridge. As for Rizeena, she must have a shout, but I’ve always felt that she only just gets a mile and that the July Course won’t see her to best effect (I would aim the horse for the Foret on Arc day before a tilt at the Breeders Cup Mile). Lighting Thunder could be interesting, if you forgive her Ascot run then she has a great shout and could go close of a faster pace. Miss France could be anything but for some reason I don’t think she’ll run. Euro Charline has improved every run this season and is a beauty to watch. If she keeps on the upward curve then who knows? I also think the July Course will play to her strengths. And what about Marvellous or Thistle Bird? If either of them turned up then it would make the race a tad more interesting? I agree Sky Lantern is class and probably a class above. But this year’s renewal could prove more competitive than last year’s and she goes into the race off the back of a rough campaign and a few bad results. At this stage it’s too tough to say, and to be honest after last year’s fiasco I will leave the race alone, well alone.
June 29, 2014 at 19:34 #484351Sky Lantern will be fitter and 5lbs better in with Integral but I thought Stoute’s filly was value for a bit more than the winning margin at Ascot and Sky Lantern never looked like getting properly involved that day.
I will see what the odds are but will probably favour Integral, who I expect to improve further this season with only seven starts under her belt. This filly can travel well and her only poor run came when she tried 10f.
She’s a serious opponent for sure.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
July 3, 2014 at 22:02 #484616I wish they would bloody price up the race, I keep spending my stake money……
I’ve been asking racebets to price it up for almost a year but nothing.
Hope they make Integral fav with Sky Lantern at 10’s…..

July 5, 2014 at 18:44 #4848359/4 your girl Nathan. Have you plunged your millions on yet?
July 5, 2014 at 22:41 #484852Ha, yeah, I’ve just lost a couple million on Holland not putting Costa Rica away in 90 minutes and again in extra time……..

July 6, 2014 at 12:34 #484886The perfectly ironed plan has been met with a crease.
Of the nine declared it’s only Muteela who is a front runner and unless she gets put under any sort of pressure is likely to go just the moderate gallop, which is not ideal. However not all is lost, I’m entrusting Hughes…
to use his iron, I mean loaf to judge the fractions from preferable a position of cover behind Integral who will hopefully be prominently ridden and is the big danger to the ‘certainty’. Hughes should then start to get Sky Lantern rolling 3f from home with Integral still travelling and catch her on the hop, hit the lead 1 and a half to 2f out and power home with a whoosh.
Of the rest Rizeena impressed at Ascot but this just might not be her course going down 4 times here in the past. Purr Along had been wanting soft conditions with her previous connections and got the win over in Ireland for Johnny M when the ground was just that and probably although consistent enough wants a bit of cut to be at her best? Certify hardly set the world alight on her comeback but is entitled to improve on it. Just the Judge seems to have gone backwards since a very promising start to her career but it’s possibly dropping back to a mile may help. Kiyoshi has only had the 6 starts and ran only the once over the mile latest when 10th of 12 at Ascot behind Rizeena but that was her reappearance and she was only 4 lengths adrift of the winner and is a big enough price here, would not write her off. Peace Burg would be a real shocker if winning this and even Aiden will have his work cut out.

July 9, 2014 at 10:21 #485044Well that’s the only front runner gone and also Just the Judge gone.
I wonder who the fastest crawler is going to be?Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
July 9, 2014 at 13:28 #485053If the race is really slowly run it should suit Rizeena but I don’t like her record at Newmarket.
I feel that Integral will go off very short here so it’s not a race for me to get involved in. It’s an interesting race but not as competitive as I had hoped and there will be better value elsewhere.
Good luck though Nathan!

July 9, 2014 at 15:38 #485062Cheers Steve.
Sky Lantern is only a half ‘certainty’ now but that’s racing for you. I’m surprised Hannon doesn’t employ more pacemakers in these kind of races that tend to cut up to be honest. Similar in the Sussex they have Shifting Power in the decs but I suppose the owners of these horses don’t want them sacrificed as pacemakers.Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
July 9, 2014 at 15:42 #485064Come now Nathan. In your opening post you claimed only the rain could stop the certainty now you’re going on about pacemakers. You’re turning into Gosden, I sense you’re losing your bottle.

Now, tell me is Sky Lantern a certainty or not, a simple yes or no will do.
July 9, 2014 at 15:50 #485066Gosden knows the score that’s why Elusive Kate is staying well clear…….

July 10, 2014 at 09:10 #485119Will be a family affair and Echelon feeling proud as punch when both Integral and Provenance win tomorrow.
July 10, 2014 at 14:02 #485144I’d rather have Integral, sorry Nathan.
I think the Hannons have been to the well a few too many times and overraced Sky Lantern. Being by Red Clubs, she doesn’t have the pedigree to improve with age of Integral (Dalakhani/Echelon).
July 10, 2014 at 14:13 #485145The ground might have a big say in this. In the longer distance races it looks like jumping ground already. If it keeps raining it could be a case of what handles best.

She ran respectably at Ascot considering she was 20 kilos heavier that day to what she weighs now. The yard are upbeat by her homework but they usually are aren’t they.
If it keeps raining watch out for Purr Along.
