As absurd that the start of the new jumps season starts the day after the end of the old season at Sandown, isn’t it ridiculous that two days after the end of the flat turf season at Doncaster, that the flat starts again with non-stop all-weather racing until next March?

Surely in both codes you need a break for a specified period (2/3 weeks?)to give everyone the chance of a rest?

Half the horses running on the AW this season could probably give a few 160+ rated NH stars a run for their money.

The AW season isn’t the flat season I hope you can understand this, plenty of up and coming jockeys have used the AW to improve their skills which is fantastic.

Lol ok good shout but Rite of Passage is by Giants Causeway so he’s practically 95% a flat animal and just exploiting a weak National Hunt game at present.

I am sure if Patkai was running he’d have gone close, even Samuel :P.

If all these flat horse are so good how come the majority of them get put in their place when they tackle hurdles?!

What is with your unfair dislike for NH horses Mr.W?!

It’s a completely different ball game and therefore hard to make a comparison but when NH dip their toe into the Flat water they regularly come up with the goods in big races (Junior, Rite Of Passage, Sesenta). Most high profile flat horses who tackle jumps are invariably found out.

I find it hard to understand why there’s not a week off. It’s too easy to say the AW season is not the Flat season. Well, where is the difference? The jockey’s championship has just been duelled out at Lingfield, Wolverhampton and Kempton, with all winners on those AW tracks counting towards the Flat Turf jockey’s championship. Maybe RFC, with all their great idea’s on narrative, should help to distinguish the difference. Oh wait, they and the BHA don’t control the fixture list…

I do find it amusing that you claim Junior to be a Jumps horse. Where do you think he came from?

Agreed, ex Brian Meehan donkey out of Singspiel.

Re: Thehorsesmouth, Yes ok Sesenta won the Ebor and fair enough she’s bred for jumping but the real winner of that race should have been Changingoftheguard but hey the history books won’t say that though!

Dirar who was beaten six lengths in the Galway Hurdle hammered the Breeders Cup Turf winner at York.

Must be depressing having all your jocks injured every 5 minutes though?

Do you think Dirar would of beat Workforce in Breeders Cup? Think you need your heads examined if you do.

Dirar was a Flat horse well before he was a jumps horse. As was the horse that beat him in the Galway hurdle Overturn.

Apologies for my ignorance DJ and Mr.W, I must admit I just asumed he was a NH bred horse

I hope you’ll forgive my ignorance
