July 5, 2014 at 08:19 #484742Although respect to Dettori I am disappointed to see Atzeni off Kingston hill. I am hoping Dettori can push the button early enough
July 5, 2014 at 14:08 #484816I’m really looking forward to this race, especialy now that Kingston Hill is definately running. No idea who’s going to winner, don’t even know who I ‘want’ to win.
July 5, 2014 at 14:18 #484818The rain is falling, The Fugue scuppered?
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
July 5, 2014 at 15:11 #484823The favourite tag curse strikes again with The Fugue.
A pathetic effort in the saddle from William Buick and a few others as they couldn’t even catch pacemaker Somewhat, who had set off at a suicidal lick and should have been there for the taking in the closing stages.
Surely Roger Varian will see the sense in aiming Kingston Hill at the St Leger. He will be keen to try one a half miles but is liable to run into Australia and/or older horses going down that route, so why not let the horse have a go at a classic.
The Fugue is talented but I maintain she is not the most consistent and has the 1 for 8 statistic as favourite now. I think that was my last time backing her today.
War Command is a horse desperately needing to be dropped in class and True Story is a horse that seems to win Derbies and Arcs but only when Kieren Fallon is in the Land Of Nod and watching England lifting the World Cup in the background

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
July 5, 2014 at 17:02 #484828One of the most frustrating races I’ve ever seen although big well done to the front two horses and jockeys who rode the sensible race in the circumstances. Delighted for mukhadram and William haggas and not just as I tipped him. Annoying that dettori said before the race that you need a horse that grinds it out then let’s the front two get away then doesn’t pass the pacemaker.so many disappointments including the fugue and night of thunder but I would be inclined to draw a line through this race as if it’s rerun at York in the juddmonte then there will be a different outcome and Australia will stuff them all anyway.
July 5, 2014 at 17:04 #484829I think The Fugue [or The Foog as Tom Lee persists in calling her
] must be a very difficult ride. It was interesting to hear last week that Sheikh Hamdan [sp] likes his horses to race prominently, thereby avoiding getting into trouble during races. Thought at the time that it can’t suit every horse but it certainly worked in their favour today. Disappointing race in general, though.July 5, 2014 at 17:29 #484831I’d agree with Steve. Buick was pathetic and Dettori not much better out of his ground on a stayer.
Verrazano looks like Tarzan but runs like Jane. Held at a mile by the likes of Olympic Glory and Toronado.
Night of Thunder is a top class miler who nonetheless fluked a Guineas over Kingman who he won’t beat again. Possibly because of the surfeit of mile talent in the Hannon yard and desire to keep them apart, he is another one being messed around in distance and made into something he is not. iler Olympic Glory got stuffed over 10f in France. Montiridge is a G2/3 miler who lacks the early speed to be a Group sprinterJuly 5, 2014 at 18:09 #484833Hannon has tried them all over 10f now Lingfield including Toronado. Perhaps he cant train a horse over the distance because they all look like 10f should be fine on paper. Perhaps after todays efforts he should stick them all in the Sussex, plenty of prize money for 2nd, 3rd and 4th……

July 5, 2014 at 20:31 #484839The eclipse can throw up strange results as its for horses who cant win top races at 8 or 12f.Oratorio was one such horse who couldnt win at the other distances. The winner was a solid 10f/12f horse as was the second. The first two are heading for the king george where magician i believe is headed and i doubt they will beat if the ground is good or better. No wonder the bookies make money.
July 5, 2014 at 20:50 #484846I managed to get on at 16/1 Mukhadram. He was the winner a long way out. Hardly went a pace but somehow found himself many lengths in front of the principles, and this is a horse that does not stop for anything. Thoroughly enjoyable, makes you wonder how he got defeated in a Cambridgeshire of a mark of 90.
I couldn’t have Kingston Hill at all, he was always going to be done for a bit of pace at this distance and should be trained for the St Leger. Dettori told them as much when he got of so I hear.
The Fugue was given a tactically poor ride and was never going to pick up at the same rate she did at Ascot due to the tackiness on top of the ground.
I wouldn’t give up on Night Of Thunder, the race was not run to suit at all and Trading Leather should go close in the King George.
I doubt Mukhadram will stay a mile and a half but I can’t say for sure and Haggas does seem rather bullish about the bid.
July 5, 2014 at 20:52 #484847The winner is a fantastic racehorse, look at all the great races he ran last year, only bad race was in the Champion Stakes on soft going which was never going to suit. His run in Dubai was great considering he had no prep and I am convinced he was always going to come on for Ascot and to be fair wasn’t given a ride to see him to best effect, he has to be in front as soon as he sees the finishing line. He did just that today and Hanagan (once more) out rode them all.
July 6, 2014 at 19:22 #484903Jim McGrath said that somebody had criticised Paul Hanagan in their Saturday colomn the day after his Oaks win on Taghrooda.
Does anybody know who that was?
