Kevin Prendergast’s Haatef has run a mighty race too. He travelled really well and was just about last to come off the bridle. Not saying he’s a Guineas horse but he certainly looks up to winning pattern races next year.
Strategic Prince and Vital Equine have finished pretty much where they were entitled to and the form looks absolutely rock solid.
October 14, 2006 at 16:03 #79821its intresting listening to peolple talk about hre being small and not likely to train on  looking at teofilo he’s a big horse looks like a 3yr already and out of the two i would say he’s the one who may not train on looking at hre he has improved with ever run this season and if you take the national stakes then hre is the one who  has improved today not teofilo

October 14, 2006 at 16:07 #79822Look at how all the Galileos improve from 2 to 3. A cert to train on with any sort of luck and loads of progress likely.
October 14, 2006 at 16:10 #79823but how many of his progeny have been as big and forward looking at 2 than teofilo
October 14, 2006 at 16:14 #79824There is a difference between "big" and "forward". He is a great big colt but its clear to see he has not filled out nor strenghtened into his frame and that will happen in the winter.
On the other hand HRE, like Teofilo, pretty much has his frame set but the crucial difference is he is already strong and filled out in the right places. Its not a question of which is the "bigger" horse but rather which is most mature and there is no doubt any paddock judge will tell you the HRE you saw today will pretty much be the same one you will see on Guineas day.
October 14, 2006 at 16:18 #79825Do you still think Teofilo will stay 12f? I’ve maintained from early on that he won’t stay as well as he’s bred to and I see nothing about the way he goes through his races to change my opinion. I think he’ll prove best at between a mile and ten furlongs.
October 14, 2006 at 16:19 #79826I would be more confident about him winning the Derby than I would the Guineas. On very fast ground I think a really good miler could mug him. Obviously the one to beat.
His temperment will give him every chance of getting the Derby trip.
October 14, 2006 at 16:22 #79827Fair enough, I’m of the opposite opinion.
October 14, 2006 at 16:27 #79828The worry with Teofilo for next year is whether he is at an advantage this year because of his relative physical maturity.
Three things may happen. The first is that he won’t grow or develop and be much the same horse next year as this, leaving him vulnerable to horses who do come on over the winter. Secondly he may ‘fill out’ his frame, putting on bulk which arrives at the detriment of his racing ability. Thirdly, and the outcome we all crave, is the prospect that he will continue to develop, his physique maintaining its athleticism while, at the same time, becoming stronger and acquiring more depth, allowing him to utilise his speed in races over longer distances.
HRE looks much more a two year old but, to continue my earlier analogy, Mill Reef was small, raced plenty at two and he trained on well enough!
October 14, 2006 at 16:32 #79829thats the point i was trying to make cormack, well put on todays run teofilo has not improve from his last race
October 14, 2006 at 17:10 #79830You cant really say that Teofilo hasnt improved because of the distance between the two, he never broke well and had to make up ground early in the race, which was always going to show at the end, however, teofilo is the more likely to improve as he will improve with distance.
HRE is a little compact horse and looks to be about as good as he is going to get, give or take a few lbs.
Wheras teofilo is a huge horse and looks like he can fill out over the winter, as you would want, HRE doesnt look like having much more filling to do and will enter the 3yo season as a good little horse. However, after the guineas if teofilo was to step up in trip for the derby, HRE would have a good chance of picking up the St James Palace and the irish or french guineas etc, provided nothing out matures him over the winter which is probably quite likely given his size.
With the similarities in price for next year, teofilo looks the value bet in everything.

Corm<br>Can’t really see how putting on more muscle could be a detriment, surely it can only improve him.
I agree with Aidan though, on today’s evidence he may struggle for speed in a fast ground Guineas. Sure enough he came back today, but HRE passed him fairly comfortably today, and on fast ground, may have stayed there!
October 14, 2006 at 17:38 #79832A sensational race run in a sensational time. Absolutely vintage.
October 14, 2006 at 17:41 #79833A belting race, certainly the highlight of the day. Is there anything that can challenge these two in May next year?
The trainers of the English two year olds must be plotting the best route to the Brittania Handicap as we speak.;)
October 14, 2006 at 17:43 #79834no i cant see past these two for the guineas
October 14, 2006 at 17:55 #79835It certainly looks like a two horse race at this point, however, i wouldnt be surprised to see something improve considerably over the winter, theres a few waiting in the wings.
October 14, 2006 at 18:23 #79836which ones are they bulwark
