Paul Nichols is never shy to send one racing a bit short of being race fit. Very often they still win but Gizao improved big time for his first run last season when looking one paced against Kilmurry.
He’s been dropped a few pounds and he’s been crying out for this longer trip.
He looks very much like a horse that’s been laid out for this.
He may not be up to winning Arkle’s but in this class he’s head and shoulders above most of them and I won’t be looking any further.
Gizao ew 12/1
December 5, 2011 at 14:36 #381187Ghizao looks a doubtful stayer to me and there are some massive trends for this race:
The 2 that meet most are
My main concern is that Medermit is priced at 14s, maybe he is not going here! Divers is 9s but surely will drift before Saturday. There is also money today for GhizaoDecember 5, 2011 at 14:41 #381189Medermit possibly going for the Peterborough Chase on Thursday could be the reason his price is so long!
December 5, 2011 at 20:57 #381248Someone thinks Gizao will stay his odds have halved in the last 4 hours.

Yeh i do mate but i only got 10/1 this morning! Fine specimen of a horse,
Ghizao
beat
Captain Chris
over 2m at levels around Cheltenham and some thought it was a fluke,he only goes on to give 10lb to the same horse over 2m 2f at Newbury and stuffs him (Arkle Winner) again. There’s nothing better handicapped on that sort of form and i believe the trip wont be a problem, his fencing might be his achilles heel but i’m hopeful.
December 6, 2011 at 08:46 #381303You need to get up earlier in the morning tbh I only got peanuts on at 12 and my bets averages out at just over 9/1 so you did better than me
Needless to say Gizao was somewhat flattered against Captain Chris who improved by leaps and bounds as the season progressed but most of these couldn’t go the gallop Captain Chris is capable of.
Great Endeavour and Quantitativeeasing will be popular but the former tends to always run well but very seldom wins and the latter can throw in the odd stinker without warning and can’t be trusted.
Divers could be the one to upset the apple cart, Ferdy never has many right at this time of the year and the few he has. most of them have run below what has been expected. Could be Divers wasn’t as far forward as Ferdy thought so if that was the case he’d be a massive danger.
December 6, 2011 at 10:03 #381307Divers could be the one to upset the apple cart,
In a match i would go 4/5
Quantitiveeasing
11/10
Divers
bearing in mind they are weighted to Dead-heat on Festival form,i reckon the Henderson horse has the more scope for improvement and see him as a major danger, however
Ghizaos
overall profile has a distinct edge to it.
December 6, 2011 at 10:18 #381309I agree with you guys re Ghizao. He is the class horse in the field on Captain Chris form, and looked as though he would have beaten Finnians Rainbow at Aintree but for belting the last. Was gutted it ran a stinker behind Medermit as I had some tasty bets on him for the Champion Chase but that’s racing. If it doesn’t hit one or two fences this must have a huge chance at the weights, but that’s a big if…..good luck for Saturday!
December 6, 2011 at 12:26 #381331Think Quantitativeeasing could have a very attractive mark for this.
December 6, 2011 at 21:03 #381389Count me in for a punt on Ghizao. Made huge strides from first to second run last year and made up into a class act.
Also I think the Stewart Family are part owners and they obviously have a particular wish to win this race.
December 6, 2011 at 22:27 #381406The one thing that concerns me about Ghizao is that P.N said he was about as fit as he could have been and that the H.Gold cup was one on his big targets. So how much can he improve?
December 6, 2011 at 22:56 #381413Don’t forget Tatenen is also owned by the Stewart family, and also looks as if he’s been laid out for this. He’s been bet on, and if he were still trained by Nicholls, he’d be half the price. I like his weight for a former Arkle AP favourite.
Ghizao is out of a classy dam, who won the Fillies’ Mile, so he shouldn’t want for flat speed – but we also know he can jump at speed (touch wood). Disappointed to only get 8s about him.

He has lost all value surely (20s from 33s) since Mark Winstanley tipped him up Monday..
December 7, 2011 at 09:19 #381448Apparently they thought Ghizao should have won the Haldon Cup with a view to go for the Tingle Creek, so they obviously think highly of him.
Connections very disappointed, but he was found to be very stiff afterwards and given some time to get over it. Probably due to hitting every other fence!! If he jumps well he’s a top class horse, but that’s what NH racing is all about….jumping!!December 7, 2011 at 09:29 #381449Given that Timmy Murphy is the only jockey who has won on Ghizao over obstacles, the fact he is not riding him must be something of a negative.

Perhaps connections are keen to do an
Exotic Dancer
with
Great Endeavour
.I’m of the opinion that
Ghizao
was all about last years Arkle,he flopped, not for the 1st time but when he’s good he’s very good, at 10/1 i like to think i have my bases covered. If
Calgary Bay
goes to Doncaster i’m going too, with my new Sony a77,just to get a portrait for my office wall.I’m a big softie when it comes to photographing horses!
December 7, 2011 at 12:49 #381480I agree that Timmy Murphy probably suits Ghizao, but I can’t agree that having Ruby Walsh on board would be a negative on any horse to be honest….he’s the best in the business.
