Apparently Patrick Mullins has promised to bare his ar@e from atop of some bridge in Ireland if HF doesn’t win!
Another reason to hope he wins!
March 3, 2013 at 10:55 #431126Henderson has been very positive about Binocular in his interviews. I know a lot of people don’t give him much chance but I think he’ll run a really big race on the day.
March 3, 2013 at 19:23 #431197I see the frost stopped Grondouet from having a racecourse gallop this morning. How many setbacks can a horse have in the run up to Cheltenham? Hopefully be able to gallop tomorrow and all systems go for the Champion
March 3, 2013 at 21:52 #431213Hills are going 3s The Fly from 9am tmrw, nrnb, so pile on if you fancy him and aren’t on at fancy prices.

Pile on? I tried to get a grand on and was offered £49.50 at 3/1 and the rest at 9/4. Tossers

I’d have hoped they’d offer it to a Ton at least. Why not give you the extra 50p to make it £50?
I suppose at least they aren’t defaulting back to 13/8 for the balance – 9/4 is pretty fair.

Mate who bets in hundreds was limited to £50. Not as attractive as looks.
March 4, 2013 at 11:15 #431269Paddy Power trying to get Hurricane Fly beat, now Hills trying to get him (albeit for very tight amounts by the sound of it)…I’m assuming they think it can’t win?

They are doing one offer a day of pushing a fancied horse’s price out for a limited time.
I suppose the stakes are limited to £50, but for your average punter it’s a pretty decent offer.
I’d suspect Ponte Alexandre and MTOY could be on their list and also Oscar Whiskey as he’s eminently beatable.March 4, 2013 at 19:37 #431309Cotton Mill not running, County target instead, shame think he had an outside chance.
March 4, 2013 at 20:23 #431319My AP bets on the race are Darlan w, Cotton Mill w & pl, Rebel Fitz pl, so moving swiftly on……
Only one horse has ever regained the Champion, so bye bye Fly, and Binocular. Say goodbye to the 5yos too. And to Cinders and Ashes, Supreme winners are a no-no.
Course form, especially Festival form, and especially over a longer trip are all positives.
For me, it’s between Zarkandar and Rock on Ruby.
And hopefully Mr.Winters will overcome his reluctance to taking on Hurricane Fly and try for some place money. And win or lose the Supreme, MTOY will be 2014 Champion !
March 4, 2013 at 20:45 #431323According to Kate Miller of Hills, they were laying £173,000 in total at 3-1.
Must be a cracking book for them.
March 4, 2013 at 21:31 #431333zarkandar must be a massive lay for this.
got horribly outpaced last year and as far as i’m aware horse’s don’t develop an extra gear that they don’t have in the first place.
can’t see anything but the same scenario developing this time.
although i’ve put hurricane fly up as a lay thats more to do with his price than anything. at least he has some chance of winning, zarkandar has none.
March 6, 2013 at 02:03 #431453As you are probably aware, this 2 mile corker has the lustre of witnessing Zippy’s Chelters nap romp home.
ZARKANDER
Since the Fly was beaten fair and square in last year’s CH, he has thrashed Zaidpour, Captain Cee Bee, Unaccompanied and Thousand Stars.
That makes him the form horse to beat. I think not!
If I were holding a betting slip with the Fly’s name on it, I’d be
very
worried.
Last year he was beaten 5 and a half lengths. Now, the only attributable factor to his demise was that he was not 100% – as the trainer has stated since that day.
Well, let’s hope he’s right – otherwise there is no reason whatsoever to think he’ll turn form around with Rock on Ruby.
As many sapient racing scribes have uttered – why is Rock on Ruby over twice the price of the Fly? ROR has run well and will peak on the ground and track that he loves, and has every chance of retaining his status as the champ. The ill-fated Darlan would have beaten him at Donny, but may also have gone on to beat Zarkander in the biggie. Top form.
Now, it may seem a little bit hypocritical, but I do think Zarkander was not 100% at Chelters. However, even if he wasn’t, he still has better form this season than the Fly, and arguably the best form.
He will fight all the way to the line and is going to be too strong, trust me. Whether he canters or grinds to victory this horse has the attitude and ability to be the best of the bests. He is no longer a foot soldier, he is a gladiator primed to dominate his inferiors and infatuate his audience.
I make it Zarkander with ROR for a RFC and Grandouet for the tricast.
You have been warned.

March 6, 2013 at 02:30 #431455Regarding Zarkandar, something doesn’t add up about the explanation of his defeat in last year’s race. Paul Nicholls said the horses were coughing and under the cloud of some sort of bug. Zarkandar didn’t shape like that at all.
He absolutely devoured the hill and finished like a train, albeit well behind the winner. Only Rock On Ruby finished the race stronger. If you were feeling a little weak with the man flu, would you be surging up the Cheltenham hill at the end of two miles? I contend that Zarkandar was in perfect health, but just exposed for the slowboat he is on good ground. Grandouet for me.
March 6, 2013 at 10:17 #431469Nicholls though wasn’t really raving before the race, unlike this time, took him ages to get Zarkandar onto the racecourse, the Betfair last year was a real rough race too.
March 6, 2013 at 16:11 #431485With the race now cut up to probably only eight going to post, and seemingly Khyber Kim the only one without a chance, where will the pace come from?
Will Rock On Ruby or Zarkandar try to wind it up from the front and try and stay there? Or will it be set it up perfectly for a small field bully / speedster like Hurricane Fly?
I think without a strong pace you can also say Grandouet and Binocular’s chances will suffer as a consequence, or will Khyber Kim be the one to tow them along at a decent pace?
All in all I can only see the small field and no confirmed front runner benefitting Hurricane Fly. -
