I just have to back The Fly although the past few days Zarkandar has been eating away the brain cells so by 3:20 will probably have a saver on him. Which means Rock on Ruby or Grandouet will probably win

Well done to those who backed him.

I couldn’t back him as just had some doubts going into the race, but well done to those who did.

Great job by Hurricane Fly. Ruby judged it perfectly.

Good luck with those eggs, Zippy.

Seemed to be raced off his feet for the first half, but had plenty in the tank when it counted. I wanted Zarkandar to win, but I can see now that he has not got the pace for 2m over hurdles. Perhaps a world hurdle prospect or time to try fences?

    Yeah, was smashing that.

Crazy race – apparently 2 seconds quicker than the Supreme til the hill, but the final race time 3 seconds slower.

Thought Jacob rode a poor race on Zarkandar. Didn’t think he’d be up there that early

They just showed a replay and the horse got up straight away and ran after the field. Barry Geraghty gave a comment after the race and nothing was said about an injury so I guess that means he is all right.

The Fly proved last year was blip; shame he missed the festival his first 2 years, has been amazingly consistent ever since. Thought Ruby went for home too soon

I am utterly, totally and completely humiliated.

Zippy, Mrs Zippy, Zippy’s children, Zippy’s cat and dog, Zippy’s pot plants….you guys took a helluva beating!!

Many congrats to those that had faith in The Fly. A gusty and deserved win. Zarkandar is not a gladiator.

Pleased for Hurricane Fly, the horse dug deep today to win an excellent Champion Hurdle. However, gutted for Grandouet and Barry Geraghty who were travelling like the wind when he fell and would surely have been in the shake up at the end  .

A little disappointed in Zarkandar. Will he now be stepped up in trip?

It was an odd run from Zarkandar. I didn’t think he would win, but thought he would at least be the horse staying-on best of all. Even Countrywide Flame came up the hill better.

Great Champion Hurdle though. Look back in the dust behind the first 4 and you’ll see Binocular beating Khyber Kim by a similar margin to 2010. They have probably both regressed, but that replication does give a strong look to the form.

With 2nd and 3rd, would have been great to see Darlan involved in that.

I preferred Grandouet at the odds today but all the best to Hurricane Fly for achieving the reclaiming of the crown, which so rarely happens. I was very hopeful of Grandouet playing a big part as he approached the flight that saw him come down but we will never know now.

I don’t think that was a vintage renewal with Cinders and Ashes and Binocular looking horses of yesteryear, while Zarkandar has never been one to excite me. Rock on Ruby was a below average winner last year, when, funnily enough, I was all over Hurricane Fly and he let me down for a juicy treble on the day.

Time may prove me wrong but I suspect we are watching a less than vintage crop of 2 mile hurdlers at the moment.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
