"If it falls to me to start a fight to cut out the cancer of bent and twisted journalism in our country with the simple sword of truth and the trusty shield of British fair play, so be it. I am ready for the fight. The fight against falsehood and those who peddle it. My fight begins today. Thank you and good afternoon."
April 17, 2011 at 14:59 #350761Don’t know whre you got your numbers Winkleman but they are hopelessly wide of the mark.
Info on rankings is generally available in the public domain on a variety of sites.
Page views/visitors – Figures for March (as the most recent full month, not picked out for any particular reason, same trend applies to other months) from google analytics shows year on year increases across the board. bThat has been a consistent feature for several years now. Recently visitor growth has accelerated, partly through the traffic via Facebook/Twitter.
The actual numbers (visitors, etc) you report are significantly out. In fact, wildly out by a multiplication factor of about 6 to 10 (or more) depending on which period your data was from.
Everyone – I’ll let you draw your own conclusions re- Winkleman but I strongly suspect him to be a previous inhabitant of the forum who has been banned repeatedly so I’m banning him again. I’ll leave his posts up though as we’ve nothing to hide.
April 17, 2011 at 15:33 #350767Good to see at least some of the members i mentioned coming out and expressing themselves,i hope they will contribute a bit more now as every team needs its star players,no offence to the supporting cast Stilvi, every good team needs those too.I would still like to hear from
Armchair Jockey
though,he did a lot with the Cheltenham competition,i hope he’s not burnt himself out.
April 17, 2011 at 15:47 #350770Sure some of the people who used to be here are missed, personally I found The Ante Post King and Cheltenham Specialist to be two extremely knowledgeable posters, both exceptional judges who know what it takes to win at this game.
Cheltenham Specialist
was the World Champion Tipster on here ‘Horsey’ but never got the recognition he deserved, that Anti poo King fellow was just a complete D*ck.

Imperial Call
would give him a run for his money dont you think?
April 17, 2011 at 17:24 #350781He certainly has the ability Fisher! To describe The Ante Post King as a d*ck is a bit harsh, he just had a funny way of articulating his points

April 17, 2011 at 21:00 #350826One of the members you mention, Oh So Sharp, flamed Corm so badly (I know, I was one of the few who saw the post), that he had to go. Straight red card. I guess he wasn’t in the best of tempers that night.
A couple of the others saw TRF as their own personal "Truman Show" and despite many, many chances, they had to go. Again, no choice. You can find them posting on two other forums if the supporting cast remaining isn’t your bag.
I miss Grasshopper, even though I didn’t agree with virtually anything he said, and he follows the wrong code, but anyone who knows Bill Hicks (his favourite comedian), can kind of guess why he left.
AJ and Himself are still active posters, if a little less active at the moment.
When I first joined, in 2005, the place was a war zone. The universal impact of nostalgia means that we forget all that and look back with more fondness than is strictly deserved. Generally, there were more a***holes on here than you can find lined up in a barracks latrine after curry night. Every thread ended up in a punch up and no-one ever gave up the most minor and pathetic of points – including me. Membership was tiring and emotionally draining most of the time. Now, its all a lot more casual. Cav – who is posting brilliantly this year – points out the high points in his post earlier so I won’t repeat them. This is already proving a much better year than last.
April 17, 2011 at 21:04 #350829Agree Cav is a star Max – great post otherwise too.
April 17, 2011 at 21:08 #350830And agreed Grasshopper is a miss.

Ah, that takes me back to Sunday evenings and the
Annie Nightingale Request Show
on Radio 1. You’ll be asking for Stump’s "Buffalo" or "Swampsnake" by the Sensational Alex Harvey Band next…

PS Own thoughts on the original poster’s post to follow at some juncture. Not tonight, though.

it just shows you about there character and what they think of you by leaving in the first place and the longer they have been left the sooner they’ll be forgotten ans I am sure we’ll see an influx of members in the coming years.
So if you take a backseat on the racing forum it shows what you think of other posters on the forum, what a strange thing to say.
From what I see in some ways this place has turned into an intellectual debating society with no soul.
Regulars should be welcoming those who find spelling difficult, or who have something different to say on horse racing subjects, as maybe the forum has now travelled so far it’s forgotten what made it a place where people liked to visit in the first place? Lighthearted conversasion? banter? True exchange of ideas? Diversity in what people say and not just the way they say it?
Ps. what’s happend to the PM facility?
April 17, 2011 at 22:22 #350846The PM facility is alive and well.
Good to see another newbie with a month’s membership commenting on what the place ‘ has turned into’ tho’.
April 17, 2011 at 22:28 #350847Aidan tweets but I bet he could be lured out given the appropriate thread.
Great to see Mesh posting on this thread – old regulars like myself miss her intelligent debate.
TRF is doing just fine. Maybe some of the oldies have posted less as they have said things before but there are always great posters who make visiting worthwhile.
Glenn is a constant source of interest and amusement at the moment.
P.S. I miss Grassy too!

Reet –
Nobody’s ‘dumbing down’ anything. Do you really think we’re deliberately adopting that policy? What evidence would you put forward for that view? Jeez.
Specifically Corm; as you ask:
Last year, TAPK, for one, was running riot on here with his grandstanding, ruining many a useful thread by posting nothing more informative than how smart he was. Though he obviously knew his stuff, his ‘d*** waving’ – openly encouraged by yourself on more than occasion – was a constant source of frustration to a number of established and informative posters, quite a few of whom made their disappointment clear at the time, and have rarely posted since.
‘Circus acts’ like TAPK may well be popular generally, but do little to add to the "intelligent and informed discussion", and a little moderation, earlier, might have resulted in he, and some others, still being with us.April 18, 2011 at 08:26 #350880Repetition of oft-dissected topics has been mentioned as a reason some of the oldsters post less than they did. This is a problem common to all niche forums and can be countered by the presence of an encyclopaedic FAQ
A recent case in point is the ‘Closing Accounts’ thread in which a new poster asked a perfectly reasonable question that has been debated in various guises many times before, and on this occasion Petski was kind enough to supply the definitive answer
Threads such as this should be immediately archived into a FAQ entitled ‘Bookies For Amusement, Betfair For Gain’ or summat like
The existing ‘Archive Topics’ sub-forum while containing much of interest is a bit of an ill-sorted mish-mash allowed to languish in the bowels of TRF Towers beneath the Lounge bunker
If this was to be re-invented as a FAQ and placed in a prominent position, say above the ‘Forum Topics’ banner at the top right and new posters invited to ‘look there first’ then it might save them time and reduce the recycling of familiar subjects
A FAQ – aka –
The TRF Encyclopaedia of Racing and Betting
– how about it Cormack?
Being a shrinking violet who seeks the shadows, the likes of TAPK and The Fister with their bluster and Bokassa-like belief in themselves always grated, and I for one don’t miss their input.
Anyway I’m of the opinion that TAPK in particular was only revered because he was a willing supplier of free tips for the lazier members on here to plunder
Grasshopper – how does your garden grow?

"

A suitable compilation of its contents could go to an encyclopaedia-like section.
Many punters show indifference to such matters, then they search their pockets, then they vanish.
The professional bookmakers know and they are divided in two schools of thought: Those who do not want to stir the troubled waters and those who are nasty schemers.
I believe we should all be lobbying the mps and meps to put things right (to whatever reasonable extent this is possible). - AuthorPosts
