You’re a nice fella Nathan and have had a rough time of things in recent years, so I do hope you’re not using gambling as a crutch to ease torment, though that would be understandable

I was happy in the haze of a drunken [gambling] hour but heaven knows I’m miserable now :negative:

Enjoying a hobby spending money you can afford to lose, I trust :good:

    Yes, all good thanks Drone
It has been/is a tough journey and I’ve increased betting as a result and because of that I’ve had one or two hiccups more than normal along the way so you could say to a degree I’m using gambling as a release but I am a saving rather than a spender and any rash/silly defeat is soon jumped upon by myself with resilient **** off tactics and tiny stakes until the bank is higher than once previous which is why I’ve noticed the emails.

I must add that I have a separate bank account for betting/internet transactions to that where my wages/savings are kept
I find it a very helpful tactic in not being able to jump back in straight after a loss and would recommend it

Never thought you’d come out with a Smiths quote though.

    I sometimes wonder:

    In my life
Why do I give valuable time
To people who don’t care if I – live or die?

I can see both sides to the argument, but if gambling advertising is to be banned before 9 pm I believe it should be all advertising whether it’s during Horse racing, football or whatever. This should also include National and Health Lottery ads. You have to make things like this clear cut or the industry will soon find loopholes to get around this.

The other way is for the BHA to donate a couple of million to the Tories as Bernie Ecclestone did with Labour when they announced the banning of cigarette advertising at sporting events. F1 suddenly became exempt from this ban.

Late to the party on this one so apologies if I’m repeating people but this is all another consequence of the machines really. That’s where recent media attention surrounding problem gambling and violence in shops stems from. So in order to look like they are doing something, the government will swing the axe on adverts. I know they don’t advertise machines on TV (not to my knowledge anyway, and they can’t even advertise them in their own windows now) but they are the reason we are having this conversation.

But certainly if it is banned, it all has to go in my opinion. Horses, football, lottery, bingo, the lot. No grey areas or loopholes.

But don’t forget that Bernie was dealing with politicians in this case, and his normal supremacy fell foul of the sanguine nature of nearly all politicians. Exemption for F1 lasted about 2 minutes – in reality, one season. There has been no tobacco advertising in F1 for a long time.
