Couldn’t touch Harchibald at Arkle with bad money but he’ll probably win a few chases. As for Sizing Europe as things stand I couldn’t back him. No real way of telling if he’s back to his best until he runs against some tough oposition and the pressure is put on….then if he quickens up and does the same to them we can all say wish I had backed him AP
October 18, 2009 at 02:32 #254013I have to agree with Fist on this one!
Sizing Europe only did what he was entitled to do on Thursday. Harchi barely gets 2m never mind 2m2 and he was never going to live with Sizing Europe on his chase debut. I couldn’t back SE for the Arkle until I see him respond off the bridle against a top novice – every chance we’ll get the opportunity to see him take on Snap Tie and one or two others at the Paddy Power meet next month. I’ve always been a fan but I lost faith with him after Leopardstown at Christmas last year and I still suspect he’s a bit soft.
Catch Me could be another one to throw into the Cheltenham novice mix tomorrow. Makes his chase debut in the 5:25 down at Mallow.
October 18, 2009 at 21:21 #254129No problem for Catch Me today, however, I do not see him as an Arkle contender.
Too much inherited speed in his pedigree for an Arkle winner (I know the Arkle is 2 miles but trust me you can have too much speed).
Like Sizing Europe, he should mop up some of the Irish novice chases but I would be surprised if they take any of the top novice chases this side of the water.
October 19, 2009 at 20:00 #254293Ben Aitken, are you for real
Catch Me isn’t fast enough for top class 2 mile hurdles, he stays 2 1/2 miles well.
The Arkle would probably be ideal for him, but personally I would like to see some improvement in his jumping next time out, although to be fair he was clever when he got into trouble.
October 19, 2009 at 22:28 #254331I use Dosage ratings as one of my analysis tools and looking at his figures suggests he has too much inherited speed for the Arkle. I’m aware his form is predominantly over further but that doesn’t change the fact he has a lot of inherited speed in his stamina. This does not necessarily point to a non-stayer but it does point to his Dosage Profile not fitting that of previous Arkle winners.
October 20, 2009 at 02:49 #254387you will see the a5rkle winner hose up tmorrow at exeter tataniano they think the world of this fella ruby loves him no better judge than ruby. he loves mikhail 2 but i would expect him to take the rsa if he turns up at all hes injured at the moment
October 20, 2009 at 14:23 #254419Tatatiano was very impressive and I think at this stage he deserves his place towards the head of the market. If you are quick you can still get on at 14-1 with Voctor Chandler and Coral the others have all cut their prices to 10’s and 12’s.
Tatatiano jumped well looks like he has masses of scope and will certainly stay up the hill.
He was under more pressure than Sizing Europe who wasn’t pushed at all.
No doubt there will be plenty more coming out soon to show put their hats in the ring but at the moment Tatatiano for me is top of the lot

October 20, 2009 at 17:07 #254442tataniano ell win this is the next big nicholls star
October 20, 2009 at 17:18 #254445If you back a novice chaser ante-post the first priority is to come through with no major problems. I thought Tataniano was a little keen early on and consequently he got a little tired up the straight. The most impressive part was probably his jumping when he initially took the lead. In my opinion Victor Chandler made a realistic decision in leaving his price unchanged.

The most impressive thing about Tataniano is where he lives.
He’s a lovely looking horse and jumped very well for a novice but his horse was destroyed by Diamond Harry and in that race finished 18 lengths behind a moderate winner of a novice hurdle at Ayr. Granted the ground was heavy.
His win over Postmaster by 20 lengths was ok but he was finishing 2nd to anything on 4 legs at the time.
His hurdle form or skipping round lowly Exeter and beating a horse who was as big as a barn hardly justifies making him joint fav for the Arkle.
As things stand this horse has about 20lbs to find with the likes of Sizing Europe and the only thing that draws attention to him is PN’s reputation.
He looks like a horse that will go places but Arkle fav at this stage? same old same old and absolutely crazy
October 20, 2009 at 18:50 #254474Couldn’t agree more fist, the prices are unjustified, he only did what a 1/5 shot was entitled to do.
I very much doubt he would have defeated Harchibald with the ease Sizing Europe did.
October 20, 2009 at 19:35 #254488Similar story to Tatenen around this time last year. Has achieved very little of note on the track and is priced more on reputation. He may well be a superstar in waiting but if he was in any other yard he’d be two or three times the price.
Can’t recall what pundit said it last year but "doesn’t Nicholls have the winner of every novice chase at the Cheltenham festival in October/November!!!"
October 20, 2009 at 19:51 #254493Having watched Tataniano"s career to date,i suspect his achilles heel will be his stamina, particularly if the ground should miraculously turn soft. The Arkle is run at a good clip and this fellow will fail just like Tatenen did last year! His jumping wont hold up under pressure either!
October 20, 2009 at 20:32 #254501There are plenty of question marks about Tataniano but if you have backed him – obviously those raising the doubts haven’t – you have a horse who has made a reasonable chase debut (Ballydub showed what can happen) and one who is being specifically targeted at the Arkle. There are not that many in the ante-post market you could say that about so although I wouldn’t have shortened him up I wouldn’t be rushing to offer much more than 14/1 either.
October 21, 2009 at 14:00 #254581I`d be very happy to invest if someone wants to offer me 14/1.? I was there yesterday and this is a good horse and a better jumper than he is given credit for.
I don`t underestimate Sizing Europe either. His win was top drawerOctober 21, 2009 at 16:34 #2546072 mile cheltenham is tatanianos perfect trip and hell have no problem disposing of sizing europe next month. whenpaul nicholls and andy stewart and ruby talk up a horse u take notice there the best in the business its as simple as that .
