Good judgement FSL – just wish I’d read this earlier:angry:
October 1, 2006 at 17:26 #73658Quote: from Ardross on 11:37 am on July 19, 2006[br]But Richard Hughes might ride it
Wouldn’t necessarily have put me off although he is not one of my favourites. Not afraid to ride a waiting race but too many risks.
In fairness he did win 2 group races in a day at Newmarket in the week and is heading for another 100 domestic winners which is hardly failure.
He had that televised howler in the Diadem at Epsom but wouldn’t be the first to come unstuck on these rolling Downs courses with horses on the outside rolling in and keeping him in.
Incidentally, why doesn’t he ride some Abdulla horses in France anymore? Was riding horses like American Post and Nebraska Tornado for Abdulla trained by C Head and Fabre a couple of years ago. What changed?
October 1, 2006 at 18:29 #73659Good shout pal.
October 1, 2006 at 18:31 #73660Excellent stuff FSL. Well done.
October 1, 2006 at 19:20 #73661Well done!
October 1, 2006 at 19:28 #73662I know Carvillshill was on but I don’t think I persuaded anyone lol
October 1, 2006 at 19:28 #73663Nice one :)
October 1, 2006 at 19:33 #73664Thanks everyone. My judgement antepost is usually quite good its just a shame that by the day of the race I’m sucked in by something and my punting is crap! I only ever talk sense antepost.
I mean when was my last day of race thread when my selection actually won? (think last ice age)
October 1, 2006 at 19:37 #3089Given our ability (those of us who stayed in the UK) to bet in both the French and the UK (betfair & industry) markets, was this year’s Arc the most overbroke race of all time?
We had Deep Impact trading at around 3.25 on betfair just before the off and, from the BBC pictures, prices in the region of:
HR 5.1
Shirocco 5.2
Sixties Icon 18
Rail Link 24.6 (returned)
Pride 25
PLus the 2 outsiders:
Irish Wells was available at over 200 on betfair. Can’t remember the price of BN, but it must have been at least 80 on bf coming to the off.
Using these 8 prices, we have a market of around 85%!
Even if we assume that some of those prices came in a little on the PMU, that’s still a huge edge to the punters.
Has there ever been a race that’s so much in the favour of the backers?
Steve
October 2, 2006 at 06:01 #78383Thought it was a very uninspired ride, he looked to lack the confidence he has shown when riding him in Japan, had him far too close to the pace and wasn’t what you would call power packed in the final 2 furlongs. Didn’t get beat far and would have gone much closer with someone like Frankie on top imo.
October 2, 2006 at 06:30 #73665FSL I was on a few weeks ago at 20s. Wasn’t shocked at all to see the race finish that way. As soon as Frankie said the ground was good to firm I expected a first 2 finish. Happy days…..
October 2, 2006 at 08:56 #3092I know the race wasn’t run at a breakneck gallop but the official time is wrong by a long long way. I’ve got a couple of hand times for the race at 2.26.48 and 2.26.36 so I would disregard talk in the Racing Post about the race being over 7 seconds slower that Peintre Celebre.
October 2, 2006 at 09:33 #73666Well done FSL
October 2, 2006 at 10:29 #78593Interesting DJ
I’ve just notice a member of another board stating similar, seems everyone(including me) took the official time as correct

October 2, 2006 at 11:03 #78594Confirmed at approximately 2:26.40.
Unfortunately, a lot of French official times are complete merd.
Thanks, DJ.
October 2, 2006 at 11:28 #78595Incorrect racetimes, wrong going descriptions
Makes me wonder that maybe the formbook could be a total fabrication and may well have been penned by fiction writers like Francombe or Francis and about as much use as one of their books
October 2, 2006 at 12:05 #78596Do Timeform check all racetimes?
Does the Handicap Ledger they produce contain all race result info?
