Only 4 Horses you can back in the jumps season.
1) Thistlecrack (Worlds best jumps horse last season, don’t think any horse could beat this thing when he is in that form, past or present he destroys them all)
2) Faugheen (Travels to strongly then when he kicks takes 4 lengths, can’t catch. I hope that donkey Altior turns up to race him)
3) Douvan (Super star, he just has an enormous stride and tanks on the bridle. He would beat Sprinter very easily as Sprinter isn’t the same horse and will never recapture his brilliance)
4) Annie Power (Probably go for a mares race and win by 2 furlongs)July 31, 2016 at 22:38 #1258560I think Thistlecrack and Douvan could be the weak links there.
Thistlecrack has the talent to win a Gold Cup but he is a bit of a lump through the air. He’s a clumsy, arrogant sort who doesn’t put much effort into making a shape or finding a stride. He backs himself to flick his front legs through a flight when on a short stride or bulldoze the timber on a long one. I fear he’ll be a bit of an Iris’s Gift over fences.
Douvan is lucky to walk into a weak division with the venerable Sprinter Sacre unlikely to hold form much longer, Sire De Grugy on a violent downgrade and Un De Sceaux dependent on a soft surface. A revival from Dodging Bullets or something from left-field look like the only threats. Still, Douvan made hard work of beating Sizing John a couple of times last season, which suggests his upper limits aren’t totally out of reach for the rest.
August 1, 2016 at 09:18 #1258575Thistlecrack probably the best jumps horse I have ever seen in terms of performances, probably looks the best to. Don’t think any race horse could tank along with him then when he is let go they definitely won’t.
Vautours performance at Cheltenham was the best I had ever saw until Thistlecracks!
If he goes chasing and can jump as good as he hurdles then there is only one winner in next years gold cup!
August 1, 2016 at 14:38 #1258608Thistlecrack was a revelation last season, I just hope he continues in the same vein over fences, and really looking forward to his first tilt over the big obstacles.

Calm yourself down there. Great season but best ever, especially seeing as it was a world hurdle campaign is going a bit far. Lets see how he goes next season over fences. I hope hes as good, but he’ll be facing much better horses if he lines up in a gold cup.

If Sprinter turns up in the same form as he was at Cheltenham and Sandown he’ll give Douvan his fill of it. Dodging bullets at his best isn’t in the same class as Sprinter and Douvan. SDG is done at champion chase level.
August 1, 2016 at 15:52 #1258613If any horse raced him him over 2mile 4f to 3mile 2f last season, past or present he would of hammered them its as simple as that. Obviously we dont know if he can jump yet but we shall see.
August 2, 2016 at 16:24 #1258692DOUVAN WEAK LINK? LOL. He’s the best potenatial horse Mullins has ever trained!
I have a feeling Mullins will step Douvan up in trip. John Durkin, King George and then Gold Cup. Douvans potenatial is massive and the horse has everything to win a gold cup. Mullins knows Douvan is his best chance of ever winning the big one. I’ve taken a risk and backed Douvan at 16/1 Ante Post and still think 12s is to big, but will wait to see RR plans. He could go down the CC route but even money 8 months before Cheltenham isn’t appealing.
Cheltenham Ante post patents and lucky 15 early season at big juicy prices is KEY
August 2, 2016 at 16:38 #1258697I think Douvan will go Champion Chase next year. He’s still a baby and another year of experience under his belt before stepping up in trip would be the way I would go about it. Vautour has a brilliant Cheltenham record and deserves a crack at the Gold Cup.

August 2, 2016 at 19:30 #1258707Thistlecrack was splendidly impressive, but the 3-mile hurdling division is always the weakest, and last year was particularly unattractive. Beating Alpha des Obeaux by 7 lengths may not prove to be that much of an achievement, tho I accept that distance flattered the second. Can’t think of any 3 mile hurdlers who lived up to their reps when going fencing, Iris Gift being the most disappointing one, and remember he beat Barracouda, and Limestone Lad in a really competitive year.
Haven’t seen Douvan extended yet, so he could be anything, but I’ll wait to see how the generations match up. He has to go for the Gold Cup, which is the Big One - AuthorPosts
