My thoughts exactly, surely they don’t think they are fooling anyone in buying a derby winning son of montjeu to breed. smacks of "we wont buy coolmore yearlings we’ll just breed their lines and pretend theyre ours" to me. I think they recognise theyve made an error but wont admit it.
August 3, 2007 at 15:36 #110356A horse bred like Teofilo, and with that scope would give the impression that anything he could do at two would have been a bonus compared to what he was capable of when older. However things dont always work out like that anyway.
Its an ok season but flat racing champions certainly dont earn their crowns in the same way as National Hunt ones.

Teofilo’s career is quite similar to that of Vincent O’Brien’s Storm Bird (remember him) who also won five races before being crowned champion two year old in England and Ireland.
Unlike Teofilo, Storm Bird managed one race as a three year old – finishing unplaced. He went on to become a successful sire in America.

August 3, 2007 at 19:06 #110375Storm Bird also had the unfortunate experience of being attacked by a disgruntled ex-employee at some point over the winter, losing most of his mane and tail in the process.
