Does anyone know where shall aim for this season, I rather liked his run there.
The RSA?
October 28, 2010 at 15:56 #325127Yes.
I imagine the RSA is where he will be headed if all goes well.

Easy to say now but I doubt many of you turned down the 4/5 when he went in to that price. I couldn’t understand why he was, he could’ve been 1/3.
Looks like the RSA if things go to plan, should be a few interesting horses heading there in March.
October 28, 2010 at 17:41 #325142There were enough reasons to lay him at 4/7 or 8/15 this morning particularly on a tight, flat track like Stratford over 2m 7f when he’d done most of his winning on testing ground at more stamina sapping courses like Cheltenham and Chepstow.
Won well in the end with the only blemish being at the first – was very impressed with him last season and I think he can take high rank amongst our staying novices in 2010/11.
Martin
October 28, 2010 at 18:10 #325150Agreed Martin, he looked very good considering all of the circumstances, and think he will come on a lot from now until Cheltenham!
October 28, 2010 at 21:21 #325189I genuinely wouldn’t have backed him at any price today (well, ok, maybe 10s!
).He’s a lovely horse, don’t get me wrong, but he showed a fair bit of temper in the pre-parade at the Festival – he did NOT want to go out (they hooded him in the end) and he was worked up before he set foot on the course. Told my friends there was a fair chance he’d run his race already and not to put any more cash on him.
I read that they were going to pony him this season, but also that he was reluctant in the paddock again today – I haven’t seen him enough to know if he was a bit hinky prior to the Festival.
What it boils down to is that I would be reluctant to back him at cramped odds at least until I’d seen him get down to the start, unless this ponying thing really works for him.

is a Gold Cup horse in the making, his chasing debut at Stratford today went well,a slight mistake at the first and then a minor one later on did nothing but remind the horse to concentrate on the job in hand, his jumping was quick and accurate and he won quite comfortably. His size defineately confirmed he was no where near cherry ripe and if he continues to progress at a normal rate the RSA is his for the taking,so long as the ground is not too fast obviously! I backed this fellow at 66/1 for the RSA way back and am as confident about his chances of victory as i was about Workforce winning the Derby and Arc! Tell it like it is TAPK and i"m not charging a penny!

October 29, 2010 at 13:46 #325271Got some feedback from a friend at the course who says Tell Massini refused to leave the pre-parade – even with his pony – and had to be taken out the back and in through the racecourse side. Just something to have in mind – he won’t have that option everywhere he runs.

Discussing horses with a view to the future isn’t a game of one upmanship, Gord.

AJ there was a hint of humour in my reposte to JJM,he too concurred there was in his! Mine is bigger than yours has always been a male trait and i am very lucky to have 66/1 about the horse but thats because i am the King of Foresight!
I"m sure it was you who was the 1st to tell me Age of aquarius was out of the St Leger!
Was that not a little oneupmanship,so to speak? Time heals though and you have certainly mellowed since the days of Equitrack and Media Gecko! You"re not the worse judge of a horse yourself! Dick Turpin!

sadly died today at Newbury,it wasn"t the worst looking fall in the world but his neck was buried underneath him as he slid across the ground,it was one of those slow motion events but he quickly got up so relief was quick that all was fine! Unfortunately not! Sometimes you see a horse fall and your gut reaction is Oh No! On this occassion i thought Oh Yes he"s fine,it just shows you how dangerous jumping fences can be a stark reminder to myself that you just cant take things for granted at this game,i was picturing this fellow running in the 2012 Gold Cup! Not to be i"m afraid! Very sad day for all concerned!

That is awful news.

A horse who had so much promise, absolutely awful news.
RIP Tell Massini.
