Does anybody think that they have missed a great opportunity for group 1 success when bypassing the Coronation Cup on Derby day?
I’m not here to poo poo Pethers’s Moon as he beat two group 1 winners and it was fantastic for him, but Telescope is about 10 furlongs better than him but only has a group 2 to his name.Or is it that the Hardwicke tomorrow is a better race to compete in en route to the King George?
June 19, 2015 at 19:18 #1107158In fairness Telescope as come up short in Group 1s, however tomorrow on route to the King George there is not a proven Group 1 winner in the race so it is there for the taking.
It should be easy pickingsJune 19, 2015 at 19:38 #1107162I backed Pethers Moon at Epsom, but agree with you Chivers. Just wrote this on my thread:
My thoughts exactly with Postponed tb, suppose it’s a breeding thing in trying to get a win at 1m2f for the CV. tbh Expected to be with Telescope this week, but is a lot shorter than I expected. As you say, Group 1 horse masquerading at Group 2, but so are Postponed and Eagle Top. Both (former in particular) have potential to improve at this trip too. At least three of these better than the Coronation Cup winner. Telescope is probably the best British 1m4f older horse on his day and loves this ground. But consistency makes him opposable at the price. Stoutey came in to Ascot in good form and had one winner elsewhere this week. But imo none of the 10 Ascot runners has run to form, which is a little (only a little at this stage) disconcerting. Hasn’t had much luck with three pulling up injured
Value Is EverythingJune 19, 2015 at 19:40 #1107163Corry Cup could be in danger of losing its Group 1 status to Hardwicke at this rate.
Value Is EverythingJune 19, 2015 at 21:46 #1107190I am thinking more directly along the line of how much the horse will be worth at stud which is considerably more if he had a group 1 win to his name.
I have had a glance at the King George race and at the moment he is around 9/4, but no idea yet on final entries as there may be some international types to be entered.
He is race fit so there won’t be any excuses tomorrow and its no surprise to see his price. I might just put him in a double.June 21, 2015 at 00:03 #1108694Prior to this year, St Nicholad Abbey (thrice) and Cirrus Des Aigles won the Coronation Cup – better than Await The Dawn, Sea Moon, Thomas Chipprndale and Telescope?
Just a bit.
